all's been pretty well with my TiVO Bolt for the last year or so, with the exceptional odditiy...like last night, i suddenly discovered none of my recordings were viewable! (pic below) i checked all settings and even tried manual recording, which was also unviewable. with nowhere else to go, i unplugged it and waited about 10 minutes, fired it back up. it went thru startup, displayed the main TiVO screen and after a few seconds, live TV behind the menu.

i went to recordings and all was well.

weird.

This looks like a result of the Bolt attempting to play a preroll ad and it couldn’t connect so it just sat there.

Check again later to see if this behavior starts again. When I was trying to block the prerolls, I got a browser cookie stuck in the Bolt that made it think the site was blocked and it would show a Netgear Block screen.

However, with that said, immediately after a reboot, I could play things just fine for a minute or two, until the Bolt got its connections synced. Then I was back to the blocked screen again.

TiVo has resorted to inserting ads at the beginning of recordings. So the first time you go to play something you have recorded, TiVo loads and plays(at least tries to) a 15 second streaming ad that you can skip by hitting the right arrow.

See this thread for details...

TiVo inserting short advert before playing a recording

When it tries to play one of those ads, people usually see that arrow screen before the preroll ad actually starts playing. In your case it looks like it is or was getting stuck on reign to load the ad and just say there.

Ok, thanks. Sucks about the ads but i dont think that's what happened here. as mentioned, after the reboot, all recordings worked fine and there were no pre-roll ads any where. also as mentioned, before the reboot, i couldnt even perform a manual recording with red circle button; i'd still get the arrow screen on playback.

maybe it was just a glitch...

It IS what happened to you, just a little worse than normal. That gray arrow Screen of Interminable Wait is specifically associated with the unwanted and hated nasty pre-roll commercials. If you contact Bad_Rovi and tell them you hate those intrusive commercials and want them removed from your TiVo, that delay screen will also go away.

This software is full of bugs - you have just experienced one of them. Many others find their Bolt regularly reboot while waiting on that unwanted commercial.

It's TiVo.

Resolving a TiVo umissue should have a reboot at the first step to resolve.
If this is meant as helpful, you missed the mark.
Had you read my original post, you'd have seen i did reboot.

so...again, is "contact Bad_Rovi" supposed to be code to make you all feel important or is it something else?

"Bad_Rovi" is my term for the worthless company (Rovi) that bought Tivo and destroyed it in 2016. It is a play on words from a scifi movie. After they bought a good company, they adopted the new name of TiVo to try and hide who they really were. Rovi was a garbage company before they bought TiVo; they seemed to be universally disliked by all who had to use their products, and we saw instantly why as soon as they started touching TiVo software and Guide data. Rovi has consistently done one thing after another to make the product and user experience worse, so I insist on pointing out that they are a slimy company that cannot be trusted. They are responsible for putting those hated pre-roll commercials on your box, and you have to contact the company to beg to have them removed for a short while.

ok Goose, that's helpful info of which i wasnt aware. i've owned TiVOs for i guess 10 years, the early ones seemed to be simpler to use and just worked with no futzing around. this Bolt has required much more futzing and several posts on here to find out WTF...

so your responses here are much appreciated. i've noticed over the years that this forum has more than its fair shair of what feel to me as self-important commenters who, for some reason start throwing around acronyms and posting sorta arrogant comments. no other forum that i belong to has that many of these. so when i get helpful posts from you and Joe Kustra its really appreciated...so thanks.
