Canceled WTH

I actually liked the show.

This is why networks are failing miserably. I am not claiming this is some great work of art, but regardless, now they will just go back to airing a bunch of ridiculous reruns for the safe money.

The problem is they do this all the time, and they play for the safe money, which in the long-term is a lot less money.

Maybe they will show it on Fox Reality Channel.

NM. I see Fox On Demand has it on there. I think it is already there. I had to download the player.

That's just plain dumb. Not that I was going to watch it anyway, but to cancel it after one episode after spending a lot of money to produce it and promote it is just dumb. It's FOXdumb.

Hi ParadiseDave and betativoII! KTYX interviewed some local folks about the show last night on their local newscast. Comments were about 50-50. Some found the show entertaining while others said it was a poor reflection of the city. The anchors around here seem to go round and round the three local stations. They stay at one station for a while then disappear only to suddenly appear on a rival station. Very few have moved on to the big time though a few have gone on to the Austin and Houston markets. Interestingly, Judy Jordan, one of the KTYX anchors, was one of the top anchors in the Dallas market probably ten or so years ago. She left there to move to Tyler with her husband, laid low for a few years and has now popped up on local tv. Wonder what she thought of the "Anchorwoman"?

Something's not right here. How could a show with so much buzz get cancelled so quickly? I didn't watch it, but I heard about it here, and saw more than one story about it on TV, I imagine that ratings would have grown.

I started watching, got distracted, and never noticed that it went off. Oh well. Like someone else said, how serious can they be about the news when they have a dog on the set? Nice eye candy though.

I think the weather dog is just part of the show and another ratings ploy. They had a well advertised contest to name the weather dog a year or so ago. Stormy is his name....original huh? Poor dog is always panting and I'm sure it's too hot for him under those lights. The local pet stores sell "Stormy's dog cookies", etc. I don't watch the local news on this station very often.

Some time ago there was a video on YouTube pitching the show, Anchorwoman. It showed Tyler in a very unflattering way and the station took a lot of criticism. I think it has since been removed as the producers decided to put a more positive slant to the show.

This show had a lot of buzz? I had only seen one quick snippet as a lead-in from a commercial break during On The Lot.

I forgot to record the episode, but downloaded and watched it last night even though I knew it was already canceled. I actually kind of liked it. In addition to the wonderful eye candy, I thought Lauren came across as likable and that she'd actually be decent at the job with a little work. And the *****y anchor/producer was being set up to be a great villain. I would have liked to see more.

When I first heard that it got pulled, I wondered if the bigwigs in Fox's news department were miffed about them essentially making a mockery of serious journalists and therefore were simply burying it, but I guess if it's available on Fox.com, that can't be the case.

I wonder what working conditions are like at that station now after the photographer guy basically told Lauren that she was already better than Analisa.

As I alluded to above, the station involved isn't even a Fox affiliate -- it's a CBS affiliate. (One telltale sign of this that got left in the show is the fact that they call themselves "The Eye of East Texas.") Maybe Fox News actually wanted them to leave the CBS references in the show, but the Fox entertainment division didn't want to get sued. :D

Despite the incessant commercials, and the fact that half the show is just repeating what you just saw 2 minutes prior, the show "Making News: Texas Style" on the TV Guide Channel is a more interesting show.

It, too, follows a Texas TV station (interestingly enough, also a CBS affiliate - this time KOSA in Odessa, TX) and also features a small market TV station bringing in someone to help improve ratings... but in the case of KOSA, it was acquiring a prominent anchor from a competing television station in the market. They also focus on the other anchors, reporters, and production staff as well... it isn't strictly all about the new anchor (though that is a prominent "plot line.")

If you're interested in the TV News biz, check it out... but TiVo it and zip on through all the commercials and the repeated bits.

There's nothing that Fox's reality programming could do to local tv news that's any worse than what they've done to themselves over the past two or three decades. I defy you to find a "serious journalist" on a local news broadcast anymore.

Well, it was on FOX for one thing. ;)

Pulled off the air after one episode - perhaps this country is coming to its senses, this will be proven if the same thing happen to Cavemen.
Even if the ratings are poor, I predict that ABC will at least show 3 episodes.
They haven't gotten as bad as FOX (yet).

My gripe is that only one episode aired. So the ratings were poor. We are in the summer hiatus, after all. People are on vacation or otherwise occupied because summer TV is mostly reruns anyway. Would it have hurt FOX to air episode two just to see if ratings improve? How does FOX stay out of bankruptcy spending all that money on shows just to air one episode?
What a waste.

How could this show possibly be bad? :D

That's a nice pic of Theresa Correa, but I'm not sure what it has to do with this show or thread. :)
