They call it a "reality/comedy hybrid." KYTX is a real Texas television station (CBS affiliate, interestingly enough), and the personalities featured are all employees of KYTX.

Man, that's gotta suck for KYTX... they put up with the filming of this reality show, probably in the hopes that it would help to bump their ratings... now it gets cancelled after one airing? Ouch.

Despite the incessant commercials, and the fact that half the show is just repeating what you just saw 2 minutes prior, the show "Making News: Texas Style" on the TV Guide Channel is a more interesting show.

It, too, follows a Texas TV station (interestingly enough, also a CBS affiliate - this time KOSA in Odessa, TX) and also features a small market TV station bringing in someone to help improve ratings... but in the case of KOSA, it was acquiring a prominent anchor from a competing television station in the market. They also focus on the other anchors, reporters, and production staff as well... it isn't strictly all about the new anchor (though that is a prominent "plot line.")

If you're interested in the TV News biz, check it out... but TiVo it and zip on through all the commercials and the repeated bits.

Any chance it was designed as a one-shot deal to begin with? Maybe as an experiment? With competent market research you could learn a lot from such a project.

No, but it was a limited run series (4 episodes, I believe).
