I haven't watched the finale yet, and I'm probably missing a thread (but I looked at a couple of pages of NP and didn't see it)..

but my comment about the season in general, and I hope I didn't make it earlier in a thread if there is one.. It seems so weird that three FAMOUS people/teams made it onto the show..

Sklar brothers -- comedians and have been commentators on various shows, I think one of the old Battlebots seasons

Michael Winslow -- famous for Police Academy movies

Josh Blue (??).. The handicapped comedian. (I think he's pretty darn funny, but I did a decade or two ago when he was on whatever else he was on -- late night talk shows? Maybe Last Comic Standing??) Though I actually think all of the judges, especially Howie, have been judging the comedians as HILARIOUS, when they're "somewhat funny" to "funny".

Josh Blue won Last Comic Standing one year, but that was also an NBC show, so perhaps the producers cut some slack in letting him audition.

Regarding Michael Winslow, I never watched the Police Academy movies, so I didn't recognize him. Also, his talent act wasn't directly related to his prior fame, so it seems legit to let him compete.

Finally, in recent years, it seems like there have been a number of well-regarded acts that have competed in the "Got Talent" shows in other countries.

The show has always had a mix of pros and amateurs with varying degrees of success. Many singers have had and lost recording contracts and released albums (plural) before being dropped or leaving the business to have kids or just to do something else.

Many of them are not even on the show to win, (although it would be a nice bonus). They are there for the exposure and will, in fact make more money/have a better career without the contractual restrictions of winning.

In the early years of the show, there was a singing group called 'The Three ******* Tenors'. We had seen them on tour and they were really good, but the show rejected them and took some ridiculously bad Charro impersonator instead! They vowed never to appear on the show again and, AFAIK, are still touring and doing pretty well (COVID excepted)!

Newsflash: TV reality shows are not real! Even the well-touted million dollars is actually a $25k annuity, paid over 40 years!.

OK, I didn't realize that.

Another way of saying it is that I always got the impression that America's Got Talent is for either people who aren't yet professionals in the field, or people doing it and haven't had "their big break" yet. So not exactly JUST amateurs (MasterChef is cooking for amateurs, whereas Hell's Kitchen is for people already in the restaurant field), but "pretty close" in comparison..

(I realize a counter-example is the "Dream Team" in the '92 olympics in basketball, but I think a lot of people think that wasn't really fair either.)
