So the "Guardian Angel" fireman won the $1m prize, the bra lady came in second, and the toy cars teacher came in third.
Lots of weeping and sentimental video clips of family members saying how much they loved their parent, and supportive spouses. The host was just asking for more feedback after watching each emotional clip and I thought that was all milked a bit too much.
The Guardian Angel (both the name and the design) was shown on this TiVO forum to have been previously invented and patented many decades ago, but since nothing was done about it, it was apparently up for grabs. I wonder if the fireman was a descendant of the original creator of the name and design? They claimed to have been working on it for about 16 years, although his original presentation was a crayon drawing on an easel pad, along with a video clip of a Xmas tree catching fire and burning.
Each of the three finalists got opportunities (not an actual contract) to present their pitches to interested companies in those fields. First Alert congratulated the fireman, Maidenform offered to fly the bra lady and her family to their offices in NY, and a toy company offered to fly the teacher and his family to Toronto to discuss his toy cars.
Congrats to each of them. This season went by pretty quickly, or else I must've missed some episodes, as it seemed that they were still auditioning hopefuls just a week or two ago, and suddenly had the finalists and the decision.
Last season I seem to recall that the show had a different format whereby four finalists were followed for several weeks as they went to industrial design firms to actually build prototypes, and then went to graphic design agencies to come up with packaging, and finally to ad agencies to come up with 30-second commercials for their product before a winner was selected. And I've already forgotten who won and for what product.
I guess we'll see if these products actually hit the market.
