All performances tonight can be downloaded on iTunes, all profits will be donated to the American Red Cross and given to Japan. Also donations can be given via text tomorrow.

Casey is back so out of the hospital.

Naima - "Whats love got to do with it" by Tina Turner - I thought it sounded kind of rough. It was just alright for me. Not really that good.

Paul - "I guess thats why they call it the blues" by Elton John - Yikes, I just don't see the love for this guy. Can't stand his voice, at least not yet. He's sick but yuck.

Thia - "Colors of the wind" by Vanessa Williams - Well finally a non-pitchy performance. It just was kind of sleepy and boring. Not bad though.

James - "I'll be there for you" by Bon Jovi - Hmmmm, I thought it was very karaoke. I wanted to like it but couldn't.

Haley - "I'm your baby tonight" - It was another blah performance for me, not sure whats going on tonight. Maybe all of them are sick.

Stefano - "If you don't know me by now" by Simply Red - Finally a performance I actually enjoyed tonight. Really quite good.

Pia - "Where do broken hearts go" by Whitney Houston - Pia is one of my favs but I'm not sure I liked that arrangement.

Scotty - "Can I trust you with my heart" by Travis Tritt - I thought he did good. One of the stronger performances of the night.

Karen - "Love will lead you back" by Taylor Dayne - Voice didn't sound strong enough to me for this song. I know why she's doing the bilingual singing but she has to watch it so it doesn't get gimmicky.

Casey - "Smells like teen spirit" by Nirvana - Was better than I thought it would be.

Lauren - "I'm the only one" by Melissa Etheridge - I thought it was pretty good. Better than last week.

Jacob - "Alone" by Heart - Blah! I just don't like his style I guess. Yuck!

Wow! A new picture for kamakzie. :)
Wow! A new picture for kamakzie. :)
I bust out a new one every few years. :p
Stefano was great. Everyone else before him sucked. :(

And can we put a limit on the number of Whitney Houston songs in a performance show? Please?

Although very good, technically that's not an '89 song. Should not have been on the list.

Sure it should. Yes, it's a cover but this version was released 3/89. I'm pretty sure covers have been allowed in the past.
I am pretty much still fast forwarding much of these shows. I think they all pretty much still suck. I do like coming in here and reading kamakzie reviews tho. :)
I was underwhelmed by the whole evening. I won't bother to rank every song as I usually do. I thought the biggest majority of the contestants had pitch problems tonight. Nobody made me say "Damn, that was good"

Thia and probably Scotty were the most on pitch tonight though the judges were right in saying that Thia's song was boring. Casey did a good job with a song I never really liked and at least had some energy (and his parent looked so cool and looked like they were having so much fun!). Pia was strong but I did not like the song.

I am a huge Heart fan and I have liked Jacob in the past but I had to fast forward through the second half of him butchering Alone. I think Stefano over sang If You Don't Know Me By Now and added way too many embellishments.

I am probably going to come off like a broken record here but Paul needs to go. His vocals are certainly unique but not very strong. I think he and Naima are probably the most in danger of going home. But if I had to pick I would say Naima is going home.

I mostly am fast forwarding, too. I think most of them are sound pretty good, but I think most of the song selections suck, especially the girls. I'm so tired of all the slow & sleepy 'love' songs. Yes, the song was great - in its day. Yes, you sing it outstandingly. But is this the kind of album I'm going to get if I vote for you to win? Ugh.

I thought the worst of the night was Casey's "Smells Like Teen Spirt". He sounded like somebody at Karaoke night doing it like Sam Kinison for kicks.
Can someone PLEASE explain Paul to me?

As in, why is he on this show????

I agree with the general consensus that it was an "underwhelming" week, but he is really beyond ta suck...

I don't get the appeal of Paul and Casey (I hate the beard too!)

I think the only one who did "Alone" any justice was Carrie Underwood
Randy must have inherited the stash from the previous judges. He's always confused when Haley sings. It's not like there has never been a singer that likes to produce songs in multiple genres. I fully expect that if she sings the same genre twice in a row he will talk about how she needs to add a little variation into her song choices.

And all you Paul/Casey/Scotty haters need to get back to your Lady GaGa stuffed iPod Shuffles. They are there because they are not Top40. They will be kept their by the demographic that listens to their kind of music while the most of the others drop off the show by the fickle whims of the Top40 listeners. They probably won't win because their fan base probably won't grow much, but it is a break between that diva NaimaThiaStefanoPiaKaren singing multiple times a show.

'tho we have probably heard the last of Naima.

I liked James again. I liked his attitude with Steven Tyler. I'm glad he's sticking with the rock genre.

And sue me, I like Paul. He's not going to win, but I enjoy watching him.

Stefano was good. But I also think cover tunes shouldn't be allowed when the genre has to do with the year of the song. He totally should have sang Milli Vanilli or New Kids on the Block.

Pia was good but the arrangement was terrible. Should have picked a better song. Maybe "So Emotional" if she insists on Whitney Houston.

Thia committed the cardinal sin of American Idol. Do not sing Disney ballads. Snore.

Lauren was good. Sounded a lot like the original but still good.

Scotty missed an opportunity. He was born in 1993. If he had come out and started with "once, there was this boy who got into an accident and couldn't come to school," I'd have about lost it. But instead, more of the same from him.

Casey looks like he's playing everything for laughs. The performance was ok, but the band butchered the song by starting at the vocal instead of the iconic (and fairly short) instrumental intro.

Everyone else was bad.

Jimmy iovinne was already telling Haley she wasn't going to win.

Bottom 3 are Naima, Karen and Haley.

I can't really blame the singers for why this week sucked. This theme was terrible. Why do we even need themes? Can't we just let them sing what they want to sing?

Naima is one of the more interesting characters, but the judges were right, very pitchy again.

My wife likes Paul. I don't mind him. At least he's unique and an interesting performer.

Thia's voice is so mature. Not sure how that happens at 15. But she clearly needs some input from people with experience. What did I know at 15? Not much. Didn't like the song choice, boring. She might be in trouble, although I think 15-year-olds will get extra votes just for being 15.

James was ok. He's talented, just not my style.

Haley seems like she can really sing, she's just not a great performer. I think it's strange that the judges are hard on her when they are so over-the-top with their praise of other mediocre performances. Probably in trouble with the lack of judge support.

I like the underdog Stefano, he's always upbeat and tryin so hard. He's got pipes.

Pia was good again. I think she might be the best of the bunch, although my wife says there's something about her she doesn't like. (Who knows?)

I wasn't a Scotty fan before this week, but I actually liked him this time. He showed some range and held the high note.

Karen seems like a talented musician, but there's no power there. She's gotta go soon.

Still lovin Casey. Takes some balls to try that song. Didn't think it turned out great, but still enjoyed him.

Not a Lauren fan. I thought that was a karaoke version of the original, nothing new added. No idea why the judges liked it. You can find 10,000 people that can do the same exact thing as Lauren just did. A couple times she was off-pitch trying to embellish the phrases. Also, apparently her mom thinks she's Britney Spears.

Jacob was so over-the-top it was terrible. I think he can sing, but please stop ruining the song with so much vibrato and near-crying, painful facial gestures. Not good. Nobody's gonna buy the album if it's full of that, sorry.

Blargh. Two hours of teenagers butchering pop songs from my childhood.

Paul seems like a nice fellow who prances around when he gets nervous. As for singing, he seems to have chosen the wrong profession.
I know it's an upopular opinion around here but I still love Paul. His voice is the epitome of unique and he's got amazing stage presence. He just oozes swagger. He's just not picking songs that showcase his voice. I agree he did not sound good this week again.

For me, the best of the night was Stefano, hands down. I love Simply Red and I thought he did an amazing job. Was on pitch, mixed it up a bit to make it his own but not so much that it ruined the song.

Second would be Pia. Didn't love the arrangement but I did like it was finally a more upbeat song and as the judges said, every week she's perfection with the vocals. IMO she's the only girl worth a crap. Roadblock stated pretty exactly my feeling on Lauren.

I thought Scotty was good even though I didn't know the song. James did justice to Bon Jovi but didn't make me say wow or anything. Casey was manic and kind of scary and I for some reason really dug it!

Everyone else can go home. I call the bottom three being all girls again as aindik said in his post. I really don't know or care which goes. I suspect it might be Naima though.

Maybe it's just me, but the orchestra has seemed very loud to me this season and in spite of the earpieces I'm betting the singers are having a tough time hearing themselves. All of these kids were able to stay on key and in tune until they got to this theater. I'm betting that's not a coincidence.

Also, I absolutely hate that the audience will burst into "spontaneous" applause whenever the performer hits a high note. I realize they are being coaxed or cued to do so, but I want to hear the singer, not the audience. For that matter, I want to see the singer too. The constant cuts to audience reactions along with the would be artsy camera work during performances drives me nuts. I don't know if it's worse this season than in the past or if it's just my imagination, but I've never liked it and this year it's simply annoying and distracting. Okay, just my rant - sorry :)

Another observation - either the judges are total hypocrites, or they don't listen to country music.

I think Scotty has a nice voice, but everything he has sung so far sounds EXACTLY like the original song he is covering.

Meanwhile, the judges keep busting anyone who isn't "original" in their interpretation. Scotty is the LEAST original of anyone competing.

As I said before, he has a nice voice, but to me, it is nice karaoke - nothing new, special or exciting about anything he has sung thus far.
