No one asked, but here is my opinion.

Maybe it is just me, but the talent pool seemed pretty thin. I am not hearing what the judges hear.
Generally I always think The Voice has a much better talent pool than Idol.

Alisa Ermolaev (“Russian Stripper No. 2”) - I agreed with the judges here. She was just not good. At all.

Saveria - She was the one Katy wanted but no one else did. And Katy knocked things over and stormed around. Potential was there, but yeah she wasn't ready.

Hunter (The Comeback) - Just silliness.

Camryn Lee Smith sang “Big White Room”. She seemed weak during the low parts but sounded good when she belted it out.

Douglas Kiker sang “Bless the Broken Road”. Sigh. I hate the fakeness of this show. Making him go warm up in front of other people was just dumb.
And his 'aw shucks' was just over the top. I thought he was terrible but they let him through.

Francisco Martin sang “Alaska” and then “Tyra”. I thought both were bad. And he seemed over the top with his nervousness. They let him through but I wouldn't have.

Nick Merrico sang “You Say”. What an unlike-able guy! Sheesh. He is so full of himself. I wouldn't have let him through based on his cockiness alone. Plus, he ghosted them last season. If I was judging, he gone!

Arthur Gunn sang “Girl From the North Country” and then “Have You Ever Seen the Rain”. First song was awful. He did a much better job with his second.

Louis Knight sang “Change”. Ehh. I am not a fan of the original songs. Sing something I know! lol.I wasn't gushing over him like they were.

Sam was the final singer and she sang “Rise Up”. Backstory suckered them in here. She can sing, but was she any better than anyone in previous seasons?

I agree about the thin talent pool and about The Voice being much better.

I noticed right away Alisa sounded a lot like Nancy Wilson of Heart. I can't believe she's never been told she sounds like Heart to the point she at least knows who Heart is and has listened to some of their songs. If they had a Heart song ready when Katy asked for it she probably would have made it to Hollywood. Instead she's so self-absorbed with her narcissistic attitude that she had to make it about whatever weird theatrical show she wants to put on.

I don't know why I torture myself every season watching the auditions. They are just stupid. Very rarely on Idol or Voice do they ever seem to criticize the people once they actually start the competition. I miss Harry Connic, he told the truth about the performances.

I know right now, AI is still in taped shows, and will be for a couple more weeks... have they said how they're handling things when they go to the live shows? Or are they holding off and hoping things get better by then?

Started watching again at the Top 20 for the first time in many years.

So this Bobby Bones guy ... he's a radio jock with no actual music production experience, right? How is he qualified as a "mentor"? He seems to just exist to ask each contestant one sledgehammer-obvious question and then stare dead-eyed into his phone while they answer.

I'm not sure what his purpose is. He always seems like a backup Ryan Seacrest that they just keep around in case Seacrest asks for too much money.

What was wrong with Ryan? Something was off in that last segment.
Yeah that was weird. Before that I was thinking they had done a tremendous job pushing the bounds of what can be achieved production wise in this environment. Its another reason i think it's a shame they attenuated the season so much - they finally have it down (except those weird Ryan moments at the end) and its over. That said i do think some of the things they have learned to do with production will carry on beyond this pandemic. I can see an example where an actor could do a scene remotely on blue screen and then edited into a film (like to maybe add a scene in post production or something).

Lemons from lemonade imo.

Very surprising result which doesn't happen if it was an overnight vote. Just Sam being from New York benefited greatly from the live east coast feed/vote. I'm on the west coast but have had grandfathered directv waivers for many years allowing me to get the east coast feeds for abc and NBC.

I thought the top 2 would be Jonny West and Arthur Gunn with Gunn probably winning. Pretty sure if they hadn't done the live vote thats what would have happened.

I agree. I thought Arthur and Jonny would've been the best top two. I'm in the eastern time zone, but I still started watching too late to vote.

I was really happy with the results. As for live voting, I got a notification from the Idol app telling me it was time to vote. I'm on the west coast and got the notification when voting opened on the east coast.

Did anyone else think that Arthur thought he won? They were popping champagne bottles and celebrating like crazy.

Something was definitely wrong with Seacrest at the end. He's always so polished. He missed cues, he responded vocally to the voice in his ear, which he's never done, and his timing was way off. I know they said he didn't have a stroke, but it certainly looked like it. They were lucky it happened at the end of the show, because I doubt he would have been able to finish otherwise and there was no obvious backup plan. One of the judges would have had to carry the torch since Bobby Bones obviously wasn't live like the others.
