I can't get movies to transfer, recording history says DVR download rate to slow.

I have DSL with connection speed of incoming 3008 kbps, outgoing 512 kbps.
My internet system runs on a homeportal 802.11b, and my Tivo is connected with a Netgear MA111 USB adapter. I read somewhere that I would have to be running a 802.11G router and adapter to get movies to download. Is this true?
Anyone out there able to run with a B series router, if so is there something else I need to look at?

If I need a G router, it would cost about a $100.00 for a used router and a new Tivo USB adapter, if that's the case I think I'll skip that. I like Tivo, but so far the stuff they come out with like Tivo to Go, and Unbox, are kind of a pain.

Thanks

Router speed shouldn't matter. Your internet speed is within the capacity of a B router. IS there a lot of other activity on the network?

A TiVo branded wireless adapter might give you better throughput since the device is able to assume more of the network overhead than most wireless adapter.

I don't thik a 'G', 'g' or TiVo adapter will make any difference 80211b is 11Mbps which is 3 times faster then your 3Mbps DSL.
Your Netgear MA111 USB adaptor looks like it plugs directly into the USB port that is a poor location to receive RF if you have a USB extension cable see if it helps to move the adapter above the case.

Can you transfer using TiVo Desktop?
Is there any other hevy network activity happing like P-P file sharing, Watching Videos ...

My cable connection is limited 4Mbps usually a lot less during prime time the only time I had a download abort was when I was doing some heavy download of software on a PC. The Amazon Unbox download did restart and finish sometime during the night.

Check the speed of your internet connection from a PC

or google "speed test"

I didn't think the router should affect the problem I'm having, but it sure leaves me scrathing my head on this.

I am using an extension for my MA111 adapter, so its located about 6 foot up on a bookshelf away from electronics.

Yes I can transfer using TiVo desktop, and I'm not doing in print or file sharing on the computers in the house. We have 3 computers in the house I had all of them shut down during one movie transfer attempt, but to no avail, same message every time.

I went to the cnet speed test showed 2231.9 kbps
and mcafee showed right at 500 kbps

I may just try the TiVo USB adapter, and see if it makes a difference, and if it doesn't I'll just take it back.

Thanks for the ideas, any other thoughts would be appreicated.

Hey HomeUser, tried rebooting several times, looked at the thread you suggested, looks like others are in the same boat, but no real fix. My thought is it's either a software problem with TiVo or my USB adapter may not be up to the task. I hate to spend $60 bucks for the TiVo adapter just to download a movie. I don't watch a lot of movies, and for $60 bucks I could rent about 15 movies at Blockbuster, which is about 6 months or more for me to rent that many movies. The hoops you have to jump through to get some of this stuff workings is the pits.

Thanks Again!

Oh well I was hopping that would work as rebooting seems to be the suggested fix for everything when your out of ideas  and that last post was 2 months old.

What kind of router are you using? Search the settings for stuff that may be blocking the downloads. If you can save the settings then reset the router to the factory defaults setting up just enough of the wireless section encryption and ID that allow the TiVo to connect. I had problems getting a Sling Box (wired) to work because I had over protected the network.

It's a longshot, but maybe what jump-started my Unbox downloads will help you too. No new downloads would proceed until I'd watched and deleted existing Unbox shows. Once the Unbox folder was empty, new purchases started downloading instantly. I have a 200-hour TiVo that was mostly empty thanks to summer reruns, so disk space wasn't the issue. Besides, the folder only contained two shows and I was only trying to buy two new ones.

Restarting TiVo, rebooting my router, unpluggin the adapter . . . None of this helped. Unbox's support staff couldn't help. Merely clearing the Unbox folder on the TiVo, however, worked like magic.

Unbox also sent me some of the same videos twice. I don't think the TiVo communicates well with Amazon yet. TiVo is likely misidentifying videos to Amazon or vice versa, so neither party knows exactly which shows have downloaded or not.
