after CC reinitializing, is guided setup necessary?

one of my 2 NDS cc's lost its binding yesterday, and i had to call CS to get them to reintialize it. however, afterwards, tivo noticed changes to the cablecard decoder setup, and said i needed to run guided setup again. if all we did was pull out and push back in the cc's, is running guided setup again necessary?

that has happened to me as well (NDS Cards on Cablevision of Long Island). Running guided setup is a painful/lengthy process. My cards seem to unbind anytime the TiVo reboots. (i.e. software update)

If anyone knows the answer, please fill us in. TiVoPony????

yeah, i just rebooted to get the new software update (8.1.7c) right before that happened. good call. again, thanx rcamille.
No one else in this forum seems to have this problem. (except for you and I) It must be an issue with the NDS cards and/or TiVo's software interaction with the NDS Cards. Good Luck.

If you aren't moving them from slot to slot, then they may not have been paired properly in the first place by CV
My recommendation is to run the guided setup again. I found that whenever I did anything with my CC's, running the GS again seemed to stabilize picture issues with the TivoHD. I have FIOS TV.

I don't think that is it. The problem only appears if the unit powers down and reboots. Plus, it does not happen all the time.

after your tivoHD dl's the latest software (8.1.7c) it needs to restart. after i forced a connection to tivo, i saw a 'pending restart' notice, and the next day i had issues with one of my two nds cards. for the record, its been working fine all day.
You guys are not the only ones. I have CV and the NDS cards and after tivo got the latest software update, I also lost CC #2. I did run guided setup again just to be sure.

However, my CC #2 has always been a little bit flakey and there have been times in the past where a removal/reinsert has solved the problem without running guided setup again.
It happens with my TivoHD as well (Comcast service/cards).
From time to time I'll turn on the TV to see the "repeat guided setup" message.
I just say "No" and delete the message and all is well (so far!).

so there seems to be a variety of possible causes of the CC's to lose their binding. also, thanx for posting, and at least others will view this post and be able to simply reinsert their card/cards for reintialization. much better than having a truck roll, for sure. i hope we do eventually find where the problem is, so we know at least who to hold responsible, rather than simply blaming the cableco or tivo or the cc manufacturer, or the software...
Had my cards paired today, thrid time... afterwards the Tivo suggested to scan for channels again...

I opted not to, as of yet the lineup has not changed due to the cards having been "hit"...

Having had the cards paired three times now, has had little impact on the ongoing issues with pixelation... In fact, the pixelation has gotten worse after todays visit by the cable guy... go figure
