I'm trying to upgrade to a larger drive.
I have a series 2, TCD240090.
It has a 120 drive in it -- an upgrade I put in a few years ago from weakknees. But I'm getting some freezes and occasional odd noises, so I thought I better upgrade before it crapped out.
I found Hindsdale's website, thought I could handle the job, so I bought a 250 GB WD Caviar hard drive as a replacement.
Printed out Hinsdale's directions, and attempted to make a backup copy, and restore it to the new drive. Seemed to work fine, but when I put the new Tivo disk in, it went to the "nearly there" screen, but then went back to "welcome, powering on". Took out the new drive, and popped in the old Tivo disk, just to see if I'd screwed something up. The old disk worked fine.
I repeated the process several times, just to make sure I wasn't typing something in error or making some other mistake.
In attempting to solve this I stumbled upon the step-by-step weakknees upgrade instructions. Used their boot cd, the drives showed correctly. I partitioned the new drive to Fat so as to accept the backup file. But when I typed in "mount /dev/hdb1 /mnt, it said something like "Bogus fat drive. Need to specify filesystem."
I tried this and a couple of variations about 10 times, but no luck.
I thought I'd try skipping the backup process, and tried the weakknees mfsbackup and mfs restore command. But I got an error that said the "disk was not large enough for the backup".
I searched around the internet and around this site, searching on the error messages, but couldn't find anything helpful.
At this point, I don't know what more I can do. I'm wondering if the store will take back the hard drive . . . .
I should add that I have been in computers for 20 years, and done some professional programming. But I don't know Linux.
Thanks for any help you can offer . . . ..
