Access to recordings directly from hard drive of a dead Series 3

I have a Tivo series 3 HD which died and is probably going to stay that way. I presume that I can attach the hard drive to a PC via an IDE to USB adapter. Is there software for pulling the recordings off?

No there is not. Its all encrypted. Since it died, you lost everything.

What do you mean by died? What exactly is it doing? It could be just the capacitors or did you lose all guide data?
