I posted about this in the “what are you watching” thread in HH. I agree. Very pleasant show. Doesn’t seem like one that will offer guffaws, but I’ve got room for a show where I smile a lot while watching. Really enjoyed the first two.

Not sure there will be enough catch-up discussion on this show to require the weekly spoiler warning, but:

Yup, continuing to dig the show. It's interesting that it's on Apple because there's really no reason it couldn't be a network series. It sort of feels like one, minus the act breaks.

I'm getting a kick out of the poolside singers performing Spanish-language versions of 80's hits. Of course we got a training montage this week while they were singing "Eye of the Tiger"!

One challenge I think the show will have is telling stories about the family that don't seem to relate to what Maximo is telling his nephew (and for which there is no reason to be part of Maximo's storytelling). I didn't mind Sara trying to fix up Esteban with her mom, but there is a risk of "what are we doing here?" feelings developing with those scenes. Will be interesting to see if they tie back in at some point to retroactively justify them. A minor nitpick so far.

Even though it's only the third episode, the show is already doing a nice job with some heartfelt moments. I really did feel for Julia at the banquet, and Maximo's support of her on the beach and after felt real. And clearly there is more to tell with Don Pablo, which appears to be sad.

I really like this show.. Plenty of good characters.. No one really to dislike in any real way.. Sure, Diane and Chad were the "bad guys". But they really aren't too bad.
The singing duet always cracked me up.. Fantastic

I was very surprised things weren't all wrapped up at the end of last episode.. There sure better be a season two.. Need to see what happens at the memorial for Don Pablo

* S02E03 "Love is a Battlefield" SPOILERS *

The pandemic kind of turned Friday nights into a "hit the couch and decompress from the week with TV" night for me. Apple has regularly done a good job contributing to that, and this show definitely fits the bill. I thought this one was of the better episodes of the series so far.

The show could easily coast along in its default mode of being a pleasant, gentle situation comedy. But it does a pretty good romance when it wants to, and in this episode we got some affecting drama, too.

The scenes between Máximo and Julia setting up the suite were actually kind of moving, especially with the blindfolds on and Julia talking about how she felt like she was letting someone down no matter what she did. I think it was smart of the show not to linger too much longer on their awkwardness around each other but also not to just sweep it under the rug, but have them confront it and the reason for it, even if neither of them is still being honest with each other or themselves. And so Máximo's suggestion that they insist to themselves the kiss never happened was both gallant and sad, since it was exactly what Julia needed to let go of her guilt while being the last thing he wanted to do, deep down. It has been smart of the show to hook him up with Isabel, who is a legit good match and would plausibly let him sublimate his feelings for Julia, rather than being a sitcom distraction. And same for the show making Chad less of a mimbo and more someone Julia might actually be interesting. Of course, looming over all of this is our knowledge that Máximo and Julia actually don't end up together in the end.

Meanwhile we have Nora and Sara. After their day together shopping for Augusto and doing their hilarious, spot-on impressions of him, the natural thing probably would have been for Nora to end up being understanding in finding out that Nora is gay. So Nora throwing Sara out was an unexpected dramatic beat that I really appreciated. and it sounds like one the show is planning to stick to for a good while. I will be interested to see where the show takes them both.

* S02E05 "We Don't Need Another Hero" SPOILERS *

Another good episode in a strong second season so far. The show has always been good about treating each character's part of the stories with both humor and not a little empathy, and that was especially true here. Sara's acceptance of who she is was funny (guy: "How could I take that the right way?") but also handled with appropriate impact and gravity ("Wow, I've never said that before.") I liked how Julia was prepared to run Sara out of the resort, figuring she was just engaging in teen rebellion or whatever, then instantly shifted to being her ally once Sara told her what was actually happening. No wonder Máximo is in love with Julia.

Funny line: Máximo, seeing the redecorating his mom has done to Sara's room -- "This looks like where a nun goes to be sad!"

* S02E06 "Hollywood Nights" SPOILERS *

Adult Memo! Glad we are finally meeting some of the present-day versions of the characters (in addition to Sara).

A couple of "wait, is that...?" guest stars in this one, Wendie Malick and Kevin Dunn. And the starlet who was lying about her age looked a bit like Paris Hilton, but wasn't her.

Jessica Collins' Diane has been amusing, but I've always been a little reluctant about the affected way she plays the character. Whether accidentally or not, that performance makes perfect sense now that we know Diane herself is putting on a performance. I thought Collins had some nice moments here.

When Diane turned down Don Pablo's vacation request again, I thought, "he's obviously quitting this season", not guessing it would happen fifteen episode minutes later.

Amusing bit about the Mexican actor who was in all those different genre pictures but playing a drug runner in each one, then being excited to get his big break playing a drug lord in the new movie.

Overall the episode was fine, and moved things along, but not one of the more remarkable episodes of the series.

yeah!!!!! That was fun.. Didn't expect that to be the first person Adult Maximo met. It seems Memo has done well for himself.

* SPOILERS FOR S02E08 "Money Changes Everything" FROM HERE *

I'm not actually going to spoil anything, because I don't have time right now. I was late getting to this episode but I could write a few paragraphs about it, now that I've seen it. I think it may have been the best episode the show has ever done. It was Acapulco showing all its strengths -- funny, sweet, thoughtful, sad. Just great from end to end.
