Unfortunately, I'm beginning to believe this is a common S3 problem.

I frequently have recordings which cause a reboot repeatably at specific places in the playback.

Hard to believe its a bad sector, as I would expect TiVo software to handle bad sectors more gracefully than a reboot.

Therefore, I declare this a software bug. One that is more annoying every day.

Edited to add: I'm on Time Warner. The playbacks that have caused reboot have always been SD so far.

You can declare anything you want but that doesn't make it a fact. This sounds like a hardware problem. If it was a software issue common to all units, there would be posts from many people experiencing similar behavior. (See: SA cards on the new HD Tivo, problems with FiOS, etc.)

Call Tivo and go through their troubleshooting procedure. You'll probably end up having to exchange your unit. Better now than later (after the warranty expires).

Edited to add: For the record, my Tivo really likes newd programming. It grabs 2 or 3 movies a week from HBO/SHO/TMC.
