Ok. When I go to bed at exactly 1:08 Coast2coastam comes on SiriusXM. If I want to bluetooth it or hdmi it from my computer what sense does it make that when I turn my tv off, my receiver turns off?. If I wanna fall asleep with FM on what am I to do? I have never liked nor used CEC. Maybe it makes sense in your own movie theater. This rant stems from my Stream4k not controlling the volume on my new Yamaha receiver. Of course the standard solution begins with "turn on cec" at which point I go elsewhere. Stream4k controlled my Sony by just plugging it into hdmi. Why not a Yamaha?

How exactly do you expect the TS4K to control your receiver via CEC if you don't turn it on? Sounds like you want the Yamaha to read your mind. We're still several years away from that.

Never needed CEC for my Sony receiver. Plugged the stream4k into an hdmi port. Immediately worked the volume of the receiver. As I have said I have no use for CEC. It was not on in the tv nor the Sony. When the unit came out there was a lot of discussion about how this thing was recognizing devices. There was something more than cec going on.

So if it has nothing to do with CEC, why are you complaining about CEC? I find it very hard to believe Yamaha IR codes aren't available on the TS4K. Just because Sony may have been the default, you're getting all bent out of shape? I think your complaint is unfounded and unreasonable. I'll need proof that CEC was off in all your devices before I accept your claim that the device detection worked without it. If your claim is true, then Sony was the default IR code, which is 0000 in many universal remotes.

The only way the TS4K can possibly recognize devices is via CEC. There is no magic going on. If you insist on disabling CEC, then the magic will not happen.

At least you've managed to get me to defend the TS4K, a device I utterly despise with every fiber of my being. That's quite an accomplishment.
