It looks as if TiVo is finally beginning to roll out some long-promised software upgrades to its high-def DVRs, the TiVo HD and TiVo Series3. Hot on the heels of last week's 9.1 software upgrade (which enabled support for Rhapsody's subscription music service), some users are already getting an upgrade to version 9.2. In addition to improving the Amazon Unbox viewing experience, the latest upgrade is said to add support for connecting external eSATA hard drives, thus expanding the number of recordable hours of TV--a feature promised when those DVRs were first released. TiVo's remaining mum on the subject for now--you'll find more info perusing user forums than on TiVo's site, which currently has just a placeholder page--but we're expecting to hear an official announcement in the very near future.

I see one of my TiVoHD boxes got a 9.2J1 upgrade.
Your thread title is misleading for the content of the blog post. It doesn't say that 9.2 includes MRV or TTG; it says that those are the "next confirmed upgrades ... scheduled for rollout to high-def TiVos in November." There's no suggestion that 9.2 includes that functionality.

Actually Tivo has specifically released announcements on 9.2 , and they state that it only enables eSATA and progressive viewing of downloads for Amazon Unboxed. NO OTHER FEATURES WERE ADDED. There is no MRV, no TTG. That's still due in November "some time".
If TiVo is planning on flipping the switch on MRV and TTG in November, isn't it logical that 9.2 contains the code for that..? Why would they do this major upgrade only for a 9.3 to roll out in 2 weeks?

Supposedly (I seem to recall reading this in these very forums some months back), ONE of the delays in releasing TTG to the Series 3 units is in regards to FCC Broadcast regulations and HD.. or something. Apparently there are more legal hoops and loopholes having to be jumped through in order to get the actual ability to copy HD broadcasts from TV stations. They apparently don't want their HD Broadcasts to get turned into pirated downloads & bit torrents over night, I would expect.

I will readily admit that part of that above is theory based upon previous behavior patterns of the industry, however, and not out of some direct quote from a Tivo Rep.

I do know there were extra hoops to jump through for getting HD files involved in the TTG process. WHY there are extra hoops, I'm not 100% factually sure about.
The FCC has nothing to do with this, it had to do with Cable Labs certification for HD cable programming.

If Tivo has announced that this is coming, don't you think that these hoops have been cleared and that Tivo got CL's blessing before announcing a date and proceeding to write code?

Your reply also didn't address the possibility of MRV being in the code now and just not enabled as I described in the other thread? Thinking that Tivo is going to do 2.5 major rollouts in 2 months is unprecedented.

Actually, all indications were that the code for MRV and TTG was in 9.1.

Um, so, err, then... you agree with me. ;)
