As some of you know, I am a WL freak. Got well over 50. So the new advanced Wishlists of 9.1 are a major ++ for me. Spent some time last night playing with my WLs, and noticed some quirks... (note: I've had 9.1 for over a week, so nothing is related to newness, needs to index, etc).

* First, absolutely love the ability to mix & match qualifiers, including the AND, OR and NOT functions. . I have one WL with five keywords; if there's a limit, I haven't hit it.

* Like the way the new Keyword process eliminates the need for Quotes for an exact match. New method is much more intuitive.

* It still takes a long time for the WL to re-appear when you are viewing All Upcoming WL, and have been drilling up & down. Old behavior (pre 8.x) had this screen repopulate instantly. Starting with 8.x, and continuing into 9.x, it takes almost as long for it to repopulate as it does to create in the first place. Major PITA for WL users.

* While you can have multiple Keywords, you can only have one category. Would like to see the ability to have multiple entries here also.

* The Name This WL is a little buggy. Absolutely love this new feature, now improve it. :D
--When you go into rename on an pre-existing WL that used quotes (for exact match), the quotes are represented with their HTML codes. Makes no sense.
--Also, you can only edit from the end back. No pointing to the middle of a name to edit it. Another major PITA if you only want to change something at the beginning of a long WL title.
--I like the UPPER/lower case ability, but after playing around, decided I want my WL Names in Upper Case. When you are viewing All, having the name in UPPER case helps you visually see the break between each WL. But when you try to name a WL, it keeps reverting to lower case. You have to manually activate Upper case after *each* character. There needs to be a Caps Lock key.
--Some WL populate the name field upon creation, others don't. It appears to be related to what type of WL it is.

* Bug: When you scroll down the WL listing, and enter/view any WL, when you exit, you are back on Screen One. Major PITA, as I often look at one WL to view upcoming episodes, then the next one. Now I have to page down after each one. This is clearly a bug, that can be (and s/b) fixed with a slipstream release.

* Bug: You have always had the ability to edit or delete an individual WL while viewing All Upcoming Episodes. It never affected the current display, but if you wanted to get rid of one, it was easy to do while you were on it. Now if you delete a WL while viewing All, upon confirmation, it drops you out to the main WL screen.

* Related Bug: While View All Upcoming, delete any WL. Go right back and View All again. It will still display the deleted WL. Click on it to edit it. TiVo locks up. This is the first time my S3 has locked up in 10+ months. I waited about 10 minutes to be sure, and finally unplugged it. Caused no harm, but a definite glitch.

* Sorta Bug: If you have done a View All Upcoming WL (VAWL), if you left it, then went back to do it again, even a few seconds later, it had to "think" all over again. I never could figure out why a cache didn't speed things up the second time. Now if you go back, it instantly pops up, but with whatever it displayed the previous time, ignoring any changes.
IOW, do a VAWL, then exit it, make a change in any WL, then do a VAWL again. It will instantly bring it back up, without including the changes you just made. Waiting didn't seem to change this behavior. Rebooting does clear it, and make it start over.

I love these new features, and am thrilled TiVo has rolled them out. They increase the usefulness of Wishlists about 100%. They need to do a little software tweaking to clean up some side effects, but I'm sure they are working on that now. Can't wait to see what else they have in store for us!

Do you have any useful tips that the new WishList function allows? Maybe something for Pilot/Premiere episodes or something else that couldn't be done before? I have been able to merge a few of my 12 or so WLs into one. The naming function makes the auto-record folders look much nicer in the NP list.

One thing I like to use WishLists for is those shows that change titles each season (Big Brother, Amazing Race, Survivor, etc.). For example, Big Brother 8 ended recently, so I turned back on the auto-record for my "Big Brother" (title) and "Reality" (category) WL. I move the auto-record WL in the Season Pass list below the Big Brother 8 SP and then delete the BB8 SP. If/when BB9 starts, I will not need to remember to set the new SP. I can wait for the first episode to record to the WL folder before I create the BB9 SP, place it in the proper spot in the Season Pass list, and turn off the auto-record feature, and so on.

You seem to have discovered a couple of tips already.

*The renaming function can make an ARWL look like:
Snake Documentaries, instead of
HD & Interests\Adult
--An additional benefit to this is even when the ARWL grabs just one show (or its first show), it displays in the NP as the WL Title, and not the program name.

* The Boolean functions are amazing. In the past, I didn't set most of my WL to AR because they picked up so many shows I didn't want. But with the ability to exclude titles or actors, ARWL have jumped in usefulness.

* I have combined several WL because of the multiple keyword ability. And then renamed it to the overall concept I am WL'ing for.
--Example: Sometimes I want to grab a certain movie that rarely airs, so I set a WL for the title. As time goes by, this can create lots of WL. I have now combined those into one WL, with a generic Title of "Movies I Want", with keywords combined from the previous multiple WLs.
--Another example: I'm a DeadHead, so I had WL for "Jerry Garcia", "Bob Weir", "Ratdog", etc. Now I have one WL called "Grateful Dead", with multiple OR keywords.

Anyone else find some new uses?

I just made a wishlist for Halloween shows on my kids DVR
In the past I used ARWL and category KIDS:HOLIDAY and then went through and canceled all the really young kids shows like lazytown every so often

now I can add those shows in title and not them -lazytown
finally an autorecord wishlist I can just let record without having to maintain it all the time

Great idea! I have several WL's for a single movie title.

I am not a football fan, but I do follow my alma matter: University of Florida. In the past a wishlist of sports > college football and keyword Florida would turn up FSU, UCF, USF, etc, hence I never recorded it. Now I can do sports > college football, keyword florida, and not central and not south and not state, then tell it to record newest only, which results in my weekly UF game...woohoo!

I am now learning to set my pads correctly as the last two recording missed the last 2 minutes of the last 2 games, and both were nail biters. Heck, I had adjusted the pad once for the 2nd game too....doh!

I can see all sorts of cool things I can do with this.

Of course if Florida plays one of those teams it would fail to record it.

I think I've also discovered a bug in the new Wishlist. I tried to make a wishlist of some of my favorite actors, but soon realized that when I did a "View upcoming programs", actors that I had not included in the wishlist showed up. You can duplicate the issue, by creating a wishlist such as the following:
Under the "Actor:" field, add the following actors (leave everything else blank):
(Walker, Paul)
(Smith, Will)
I was expecting a wishlist that would have either Paul Walker or Will Smith as an actor, but when I do a "View upcoming programs" I get some weird shows such as the following:
"Walker, Texas Ranger" (probably came up because Walker is part of the title and/or description)
"Bones" (probably came up because of the actor Jake Austin Walker)
"Home Improvement" (probably came up because of the actor Taran Noah Smith)
Is there a way around this or is it just another one of them TiVo bugs?

I'm doing this from memory, which is a very dangerous trick . . . It seems to me I remember a bug being found related to multiple actors in a WL. I think TiVo has already acknowledged this, and said it should be fixed in the next release. But I can't find a thread offhand to confirm this.

This was discovered in the new 9.x software, and it looks like you have confirmed it!

I don't think you can make a wishlist with only optional keywords. One of the keywords has to be required otherwise it will just show everything.

Yes, you can.

It will be treated as an "or" and look for at least one of the two in all results. For example, you can create a keyword for (1995) (1996) in the HD movies category to display all high-definition movies from 1995 and 1996.

Like many of the wishlist issues reported above, this was fixed in 9.2.
