My Series 2 TiVo upgraded to 9.1 last night and the GUi is distracting with it's bright blues and gradients and stuff. Too much colour all over. I wish TiVo would tone it down. I don't need a Web 2.0 TiVo, I want my TiVo to be TiVo-y.

funny, I didn't even notice it on my S2 at first because it's the same graphics that have been on my S3 since it was released. I'm glad the code is finally merged into one again. You'll get used to the graphics. They look nice in my opinion

Darned if you do, darned if you don't. ;)

I'd love to see the animated backgrounds change someday. I'm aware they've previously claimed that the way the backgrounds are designed makes them not easy to change, although that was prior to availability of all the video download features, other than MRV. It's possible things are different now.

Funny, a number of people have been complaining about how 'dull' and 'dated' the TiVo interface is starting to look compared to other boxes and software, like the new FiOS 2.0 software, and how TiVo really needed to spruce things up.
Personally, I'd just like the icons to not stretch when my S3 is set to 16x9 output. For a device designed for HD you would have thought that, if they were going to stretch at all rather than have two sets of icons, that they would have done it for the people using 4x3...

I have no problem with the basic design of the interface still, I like that it's not cluttered and that it's plain and straightforward.

But the stretching is really bad. It doesn't use the screen real estate efficiently (even less so in 9.1, where information in the Now Playing list has been sacrificed in order to fit the Amazon Unbox logo in), and it just looks bad with all the stretched icons.

Pony,
Do you have any info on whether or not there is a plan to fix the stretched menus on 16x9 screens?

David
There is no 'fix' required. What you're asking is whether there is a plan to re-implement the entire UI in HD. That's what would be required, the current implementation is what has been possible given the current code base.

Something to consider for the future, but it's much larger than 'fixing a bug'. ;)

I'm a pretty big fan of the new look.
I have a S2, and don't have a widescreen TV, so it's all good...other than some hardware issues I'm attempting to work through.

Yes, please.
I thought I was picky. I didn't even notice that the icons were stretched until looking very closely just now. The only indication is that the dots are slightly oblong, rather than perfectly circular.

I can't see how that's an issue warranting a great deal of attention.

I don't think people are complaining that the circles are now ovals, I think they're unhappy that they can't take advantage of all the extra text that could be displayed if the HD TiVo's could render a 16x9 image rather than stretching a 4x3 image to fill the space.

Why does my S2 flash aqua blue full screen before playing a selected recording now? Also that ugly color is the background while playing music.
yeah, the blue splash screen is weird. it's okay, just different.

the thing i care about is the slowdown i've experienced, hate it. the graphics i'll get used to ... the slowdown i don't wanna mellow into...

I don't mind change, but the new color of the icons clash with the backgrounds on my S2's. If you are going to change the color scheme and graphics, do everything. As it is the neon colors don't look good at all on a red background. In fact they look a little washed out.

As for re-implementing the entire UI in HD, how's about an SD UI in 16x9?

I have 9.1 on my three boxes. Two are 240's and one is a 540. I haven't noticed any real change in the graphics since the upgrade. The icons may be a little different, maybe bigger, and the scroll marks on the right edge aren't what they used to be.

The background for the 240s' are different from that of the 540. So is the opening animation after a restart. The 240s' have a gears and ball pattern. The 540 has footlight and a tower. There colors are also different.

They are still the same basic patterns as before the 9.1. All three indeed have 9.1 as indicated in the system info screens and by the fact that they all show up in MRV.

Screen changes don't seems to be as snappy and before, but they seem to be getting faster. Maybe I am just getting used to them.
