6.3e giveth, and 6.3e taketh away...

I saw this once or twice in weeks past, now I've gotten a bunch of partial recordings that happened yesterday.

Shows that should have been fully recorded for the entire length of scheduled length are being truncated. For example, one show was scheduled for 1:30 and it was cut off at 1:08. Another was scheduled for an hour and it stopped recording at 37 minutes.

Nothing in the recording history. Nothing to indicate this behavior in the to-do list. Plenty of space on the disks. No bad weather. No one changed the channel (unattended Tivo).

Sigh...

Is this a HR10-250? If so, there is a bug when the hard drive fills up (even with suggestions) it can cut short HD programs. Turn off suggestions and remove the suggestions.

Nope, series 2.

Never have used suggestions - I have a hard enough time getting it to record what I tell it to!

If this was a reboot - why didn't it pick up recording after it came back up? I'm pretty sure I've seen it do this when it was recording when a power outage hit.

I did go remove a whole bunch of old programs just in case it was disk space related, but there were tens of yellow-dot programs on there so it should have just whacked one of those. I have a Weakness disk upgrade with hundreds of hours.

In the "Hmmmmmmm" category, all of the partial recordings have been on ESPN.

Sunday 9/2/07 scheduled 4:00 on Speed starting at 10 PDT. 1:43 recorded. Audio continued for unknown period of time. Several minutes at least.
Sunday 9/15/07 didn't record scheduled 1:30 on Speed starting at 10 PDT. 2nd unit did. I had learned my lesson.

P.S. This was with brandnew weaknees Seagate drive with 6.3e.

I am back to 6.2a

I've seen this on 2 of my stock HDVR2's since 6.3e. I was watching TV on one unit of the season finale of Burn Notice. It was still recording and I was watching about 30 minutes behind. The second tuner was recording some other program.

I noticed part of the way through the show that the red recording light was off. I checked the Now Playing list and both shows indicate "partial recording". But the unit never rebooted because I was still watching the recorded show. For some reason, both tuners just stopped recording. I was able to jump back to live TV and both shows were still within the 30 minute live buffer so I just told it to record and it picked up without missing anything.

I also noticed on the 2nd HDVR2 that I had a one hour program that indicated partial recording after about 12 minutes of recording.

These units were always rock-solid before this. These units didn't reboot but both tuners just stopped recording at the same time. I was just lucky to see the problem and start recording while in the 30 minute live buffer.

This is very odd behavior for my trusted TiVo units.

Both my units are rebooting daily. The Samsung between 10PM and approx. 11:30 PM, the Phillips seems to like the evening hours between 4:30 and 6:30. Both have started since 6.3e. It has gotten so bad that when recording something I really want recorded, I will manually reboot the unit a few hours before. When I do this, they will not reboot at their regular times and most of the time, not until the next day.

Has this only started happening since 6.3e? Is there any way to downgrade to an older version of the software? I have a feeling that DTV is not interested in fixing this problem so they can keep pushing people to upgrade to their H20 receivers. I'm getting all kinds of flack from my wife about this problem. She just wants it to work (and so do I).

Well, only way to go back is to pull the drive and re-image it with something like Instantcake or get a hard drive upgrade from DVRUpgrade.com or Weaknees.

Patrick

P.S. I went the DVRUpgrade path with a 250GB drive. Went in without a hitch and pulled the phone line after the first setup. It's been almost two weeks now and everything seems to be just fine...have yet to get a message about connecting the phone line either.

I watched this exact thing happen in front of me. Recording a show....BAM....reboots....end up with two files of the show, with 5 mins missing for the reboot.

So far, I'm good if I don't use local channels for the last few days. I also verify rebooting if recordings aren't affected, because it wipes out the Select-Play-Select-30-Select shortcut.
