I haven't noticed any difference on my Hughes SD-DVR40. I haven't really dug into it, yet, but so far everything looks the same except for the version number.

Here is some diffrences I've noticed.

1. Changinging "channels received" & "favorites list" has been combined into one functiom.

2. In the "To Do List", shows you pad to start early, shows the time it will start to record instead of the time the program starts.

3. Recording capacity of the DVR is now 3 hours less. Which I have seen others mention.

Tivo removed all the Multiroom Viewing code from 6.3e - so even if the Tivo is hacked this feature is missing. This is a deal breaker for me and a lot of users.
Same here. No way I'd let mine upgrade to 6.3. Ver 6.2 is very stable and allows me to use all the neat features from the zipper script.

is it possible to go back to v6.2? nothing but problems since it upgraded to 6.3
Sure, it's possible. You'll have to yank the hard drive from the Tivo, connect it to your PC, run the weaknees image on it to reformat it back to 6.2.

Of course, you'll lose all the shows recorded on the drive in the process.

if you are willing to loose all your recordings you can order Instantcake for your machine from DVRupgrade and install 6.2a which is their current release and after using the phone line for the initial setup unplug the phone line and ignore the phone line not plugged in messages. You can order PPV over the web. Good Luck

Travis, you have 6.3 and no freezing up or rebooting issues? I don't even know if going back to 6.2 will solve my problems. 6.3e seems to be a common thread with these problems from what i have read.
I have recently upgraded all my DVR's with new hard drives, the proper images from DVRupgrade and replaced the 2032 battery on all machines. They are all running 6.3e with no problems. I also have machines not currently active running 6.3e from Directv and 6.2a from DVRupgrade. All machines running without problems.

I suggest you test your drive to see if it is running within original parameters. download from www.hddguru.com the HDDscan program. all seeks should be less than 15 milliseconds as it is only going track to track. The program is freeware and if you start getting Hits above 50 milliseconds you probably should consider replacing the drive. I have found a lot of the Maxtor 40GB drives have slowed down with age ( don't we all ). The testing will cost you nothing but a little time. Good Luck :)
