Just another waste of prime time TV slot. Nobody really cares who wins and the right ones never win anyway.
Well, you're halfway right.

People watch, and people care who wins.

But the right ones IMHO don't always win. :p

OK, some people do watch and some people do care. I just don't happen to be one of them. I looked at the list of nominees and don't even know who some of them are. I thought some of the ones I did recognize did a good job on the show or other production they were nominated for, but unless I've seen all of the nominees in their respective productions I have no clue if they're deserving or not. It's hard to root for an industry where they will cancel my favorite shows because of poor ratings at the drop of a hat. I'm happy for any actor that wins an award because I'm sure it helps them get more acting jobs. It certainly looks good on a resumé. But any actor is only as good as his next performance. Many award winners have literally disappeared because they couldn't get another decent role and faded from the public's eye. There are also far too many actors that use the podium as a public venue to vent their outrage or have some kind of political agenda. I don't watch TV to have someone preach their views to me. If I did I'd just watch Fox News.

I somewhat agree. I usually don't watch and usually once I read the nominees, I usually lose interest because they generally don't agree with what I like and watch. Perfect example, Dead To Me got a bunch of nominations this year, yet I thought this was a much weaker season than the first season (which I don't believe got nominated), full of cliches, etc. I thought the actresses who played the leads were OK, but nothing special. I saw the The Morning Show and I thought Reese Witherspoon was much better than Jen Aniston, yet, it was Jen who got the nominations. And there's this fascination with all things Netflix and HBO, which frankly are networks that are simple to write for, because (and especially in the case of Netflix) they can write any crap they want and hope it sticks. It's easy to write for those networks given there is basically no restriction to how you write. To me, someone who can write for classic network TV and make a quality show deserves an Emmy. It's why I'm really rooting for The Good Place to win. Write a show with a bunch of violence and curse words and overtly sexuality and everyone gives you kudos.

But anyway, I do watch bits and pieces, but if there's a good ballgame on at the same time, I'm watching that.

I'm kind of surprised Defending wasn't nominated in any of the acting categories.

The Emmy producers have contacted the nominees in the major categories and told them that this year's Emmys will be virtual. Presumably, there will be cameras at each nominee's location, so they can get their reactions - and the winners' acceptance speeches - live.

The only thing I like about the Emmy nom's is that I always find some interesting shows I missed or forgot about. This year, I'll definitely be giving these a go:

I Know This Much is True
Mrs. America
Hollywood
Normal People
Self Made
I've seen the first three. All worth watching. In that order. I know This Much is True might be the most underrated show of the year. Mark Ruffalo was fantastic. But it IS dark and depressing, if that's not your thing. It usually isn't mine but I really enjoyed the show.

Ruffalo has been a favorite actor of mine for years, ever since "You Can Count on Me". I'll get to his series next. I can do dark and depressing with no problem.
