$199 Series 3 Dvr At Amazon Legit??

2628 Views 16 Replies 12 Participants Last post by  chaskimball
I looked at amazon.com for the TiVO series 3 and they list it at $199.99 after two $200 mail in rebates. There is question whether this is legit.

I just called TiVo customer support, and the agent said the offer is likely legit as amazon is contracted with TiVo for this sort of thing and they can offer amazon rebate in addition to TiVo rebates.

One difference between the offers is that one was in box and the other was online printable. Interestingly, the online one which was viewable accepted a clear copy of the UPC code rather than the original. Also, the two listed rebates have different due dates.

Finally, I got call back from amazon after internet request who state the 2 rebates were different and said both were legit.

At the risk of losing out here and have them go out of stock, I'm gonna wait till someone confirms this before I plunge in. Save one for me all right !!

It says $599 for me with another $400 in rebates. WOW!

Has to be an error with the rebates.
It's a mistake. The rebates have the same offer # so you will be denied the second submission.
Are in-the-box rebate forms usually available for download on Amazon? The second of the two rebate descriptions says "(in-box)" -- although that doesn't really explain why they linked a rebate form that appears to be identical to the first one in every way but the file name Firefox gave it after downloading.

Eh, who cares. I ordered it anyway. Have been on the fence for awhile as it is, and Comcast DVR froze yet again today while recording football game. I'll post back by mid-week if things aren't proven one way or the other by then.
Looks like Amazon has fixed the listing on the Series 3 TiVo. Price after rebates is now $399.99; ($200 off list price, and a mail-in rebate of $200 now)

looks like one of the two advertised rebates was supposed to have been displayed with an expiration date of Sept. 23 2007
im confused.....yesterday i called Tivo rebates dept. and they said both of the rebates were valid...so i purchased the Series 3 believing that I will get the two rebates.

am i wrong?
help me out here please...thank you....

I think you might be wrong. Both rebates are really the same rebate. I also looked at other retailer sites and they only offer a $200 rebate.

Sorry
i guess that I am only going to get one rebate and now will have a series 3...i wanted one anyways....thanks

I would call amazon.com (on the weekend, and ask for a cell phone CSA)(this ensures you will get a CSA in America)

And ask to talk with a supervisor, and tell him your problem, and ensure that you will get the offer as it was advertised, and promised by the previous CSA.

Amazon is generally good about keeping their work when an agent promises something.
There is another thread here in which Amazon said the double rebate was a mistake.
As soon as I saw that yesterday I *knew* it was wrong and I contacted Amazon to tell them to correct it. I've seen them mess up rebates on TiVo before - they showed the S2DT as $170 off when it was $150, for example.

Yeah, whenever I see something like that I try to notify the vendor before too many people get burned. People buy the box expecting to get $400 back - then end up getting $200 and a denied rebate, and they're stuck - and end up pissed at TiVo and/or Amazon.

I won't be surprised if 8-12 weeks from now someone shows up here screaming about how TiVo ripped them off by denying their rebate. ;-)
the end of the thread....

heres the final email that i recieved from amazon...they have been great at responding to me
have review the rebate information and found out that there is
only one rebate as we discussed. You can return the item for a full
refund if you wish.
