OK....so I was getting the WPU loop and replaceed the HD in my TIVO HD unit.

It worked for a day and the loop began again. I got another HD and had the same problem.

Ordered a new power supply from WeaKnees. Tried both drives with it...same problem.

Here is specifically what is happening in the loop:

    1> Plug in TIVO

2> WPU screen appears, green light is solid.

3> After about 45 seconds the green light goes out momentarily, comes back on, then yellow light comes on momentarily (so green and yellow are on together for a second) and then yellow goes out and green stays on.

4> Another 15 seconds or so later, screen goes dark (green light still lit) then green light goes out for 2-3 seconds and then blinks twice rapidly (blink, blink) and then the WPU screen appears and the whole thing starts over again (step 2 above)

Do I have any alternatives other than junking the TIVO and getting a new one?

About these hard drives; did they come with TiVo software?
    Or
Did you copy the original drive to the new drive(s)?

Both were purchased from a repuatble Ebay seller who preconfigures them withthe Tivo software.

The first drive worked for 1 day and then the problem started...or should I say started again...it was the reboot problem that caused me to buy a new drive in the first place.

Within the next 7 days I will rip out my other Tivo HD and swap the drives to verify that they are not the problem.

Must be the mother board right? And there is no easy fix for something like that right?

When you changed out the power supply and hard drives, could you have possibly dislodged the ribbon cable that attaches the front panel to the motherboard?

I know this was primarily an issue for the Series 2 Tivos, but I thought it might be worth checking.

My tivo only has this problem if i unplug it. if i do a restart from the menu it doesnt happen. So i think its a power problem. Since tivo uses most of its power at start up. But i could be wrong.

Let me know how your fix it. I did get my tivo hd working. I just kept unpluging it till it worked. I also disconnected everything from the back of the tivo. I thought it was the tuning adaptor causing this problem at first.

And i am worried about having to reboot my tivo:(

Yep, it's "below" the software loaded onto the drive.

You might want to search the drive upgrade FAQ

    http://www.tivocommunity.com/tivo-vb/showthread.php?t=370784

    for

    wdidle

    wdidle3

    intellipark

to get an idea of what it's all about.

    Go look at this post

It's where I got what I used to make a bootable cd with wdidle3 on it, and ran it on a WD10EACS with no ill effects.

I think it'll either work or tell you that the drive you aimed it at doesn't have the feature in the first place or it can't be changed by the version of wdilde you're using, but you need to open up the TiVo and write down the drive's model number, serial number, date of manufacture, and firmware version if that's on the sticker, and then search around to see if anyone's already had success running it on your particular version of your particular model, or if your particular model even has the intellipark feature.
