It was like they were doing a parody of their old comic episodes.

Based on these first three episodes, I'm puzzled why they bothered to bring it back.

Why does anyone in the entertainment industry do anything?

    Short answer: $

Longer answer: The streaming services have made all episodes of older shows available to a much wider audience than ever before. This phenomenon of bingeing older shows has led to a resurgence in popularity of many older shows, and the entertainment industry is trying to capitalize on that nostalgia by bringing back franchises they feel can produce more money. Girl Meets World, Fuller House, Gilmore Girls, The X-Files, the announced-but-scrapped revival of Coach, are all examples of this new trend.

I remember discussions on the old newsgroups about Scully's pregnancy boobs. First ever episode features Scully in bra&panties. We also saw Mulder in his red speedos.

Come on, people, this was a great episode in the same vein as Jose Chung's From Outerspace and Clyde Bruckman's Final Repose.

    Uh, no. No, it wasn't.

It was a sad reminder of how great this show once was, and no longer is.

Or maybe, this was like fan fiction by somebody who loved the old comedy episodes, but didn't really understand what made them great.

Except that this episode was written by Darin Morgan, who also wrote some of those classic comedic episodes, including the two that wprager mentioned.

And it was produced by Chris Carter, who created the old show., and it starred the stars of the old show, etc. etc. Nevertheless, as far as I'm concerned this season hasn't been in the same league as the old show.

You can't go home again, I guess...

(What it really reminds me of is the Veronica Mars movie...fan service that lacks the spark that made the original great.)

I don't disagree that these episodes so far are lacking when compared to the original run. But that's not surprising. You don't just get right up to speed on something like this after a 13-year layoff. My biggest complaint is that this new run is only six episodes, as I suspect they were just starting to hit their stride as they finished production.

Most episodes of the X Files were not spectacular. I think the 2nd and 3rd of this season are above average.

They compare very favorably to the last couple of season. And even the earlier ones had dogs like Fearful Symmetry.

Is it too much to ask that thread titles be somewhere near the guidelines?

Wow what a fantastic episode and an instant classic in the comedic episodes category.

Was there a lot of stars in the episodes? Many looked familiar. I recognize Tyler Labine from Reaper.

    I agree.

This episode was embarrassingly bad. I know what they were aiming for...the fact is that they missed, horribly.

    (IMHO, of course)

In fact, this who mini-series has been pretty awful thus far. I'm considering skipping the next 3.

And then goes into hibernation for 10,000 years. Good luck trying to prove that to someone else and not come across as crazy.

So everyone who loved it (12) is wrong and the ones who thought it was putrid (4) are right? Is that the way it goes? What about the poor slobs who didn't either love it or hate it? They don't even get to be right or wrong?

I'm just happy that Mulder and Scully seemed to be awake and able to speak in this episode. I hope they don't go back to the quiet croaking they were doing in the first two.

Well, considering that the second episode we saw was the 5th produced out of the 6, I don't think it's a matter of the actors getting "better" over time.
