I made a discovery this morning that may help isolate the problem.

When I remove all Attenuation, I get 8 video channels and all music (40 some) music channels, all the rest a either totally black, or a few DCT blocks. I decided to check signal levels on the channels I could receive and all were 98 to 100% Signal Level, SNR 38 to 42, and zeros on the RS counters. All the "bad" channels were 75% Signal Levels and mid 20s SNR with RS counters running wild.

I then took note of the channel frequency of the good vs bad channels and found all good channels were above 400000KHz, while the "bad" Channels were below 260000KHz. Also if I put the attenuation back on, the "good" channels are still at 98-100% Signal Levels. It appears the AGC (Auto Gain Control) is working fine on Higher frequencies, and not working correctly on the lower frequencies. When Comcast was here, they specifically checked signal levels and SNR on all bands, so I know it is not the cable service.

Bottom line, it appears the Roamio signal problem is related to the higher vs lower frequency of the channel. If you can get any channels without attenuation, please look at the frequency at on the Settings->Account & System Info->Tivo box Diagnostics and check the tuner frequency. Channel is your local cable company channel, and the Frequency is just below that. Scroll down and look at all 6 (4) tuners and please report back here if you find a pattern.

    Thanks,
    Brad

Hi all, thanks for this thread...
I am often getting tuning errors on a SINGLE channel (712, CW) in SF Bay Area comcast,
and V53 errors usually (sometimes v52)... (black screen).
I do see lots of RS corrected/uncorrected, when I checked diagnostics.

Some channels (and I thought before the upgrade), tune but have lots of picture breakups/glitches.
714 KDTVDT tunes, but has some breakups. 716 KFSFDT. 718 KSTSDT.
Doing Channel Signal Strength/meter test, the breakup channels vary, 80-92%.
Other channels that work are 100%, except 736 SYFYHDP ,739 UHD, 747 FOODPHD, 752 TLCPHD; those vary 94+ but works.
This is after a cold power cycle (unplug).

Some other analog channels I have seen breakups before... but not on the HD ones above, to my recollection.

Then I check later (eg right now, after checking signal strength on most channels)..
and then the above all work- eg 712 CW.

Is this the same problem as above?

My SNR right now (working) is around 38-40dB.

Certainly sounds similar, but when I have this issue my signal and SNR are much lower than yours. If I get a signal registered at all, it's 70% or below (though many times it's just a -) and my SNR registers below 27dB, usually around 23 - 25 dB.

Right now where I am sitting is that most channels are coming in ok (slight pixelation every now and again, but watchable), but I don't get any of my higher number premium channels.

As you can see in this thread, we have been feeding information to Tivo and they have contacted me on a few occasions for specifics. But they are hot on the trail of a resolution to the Signal problem. Beta and QC testing will still take a week or so when they do find a resolution.

Since I can reproduce and minimize the RF issue at will, I hope to be a Alpha or Beta tester when they do get a patch, and I'll keep you up to date.

    Merry Christmas,
    Brad

We got a snail-mail advisory from Comcast that they were changing something that MIGHT impact or HD reception.:) So far either they haven't made the change in our area or we survived without having to fix anything.

Possibly referring to the coming MPEG2>MPEG4 switch-over? It's being done in Chicago proper already. If the word "enhanced" was used in the message that's very likely what it refers to.

The quattro-3-7.2015.12.22-1751 does fix the signal problems with a power cycle if any attenuation you may have added is removed. However, during my testing, as soon as as I do a Help->Restart (i.e. soft reboot) the signal problem returns. No mixture of splitters or attenuators allows the Roamio to work after both a hard or soft reboot, it is one or the other.

Can any of you Beta testers confirm a Help->Restart causes the signal problems to recur and are cleared when a power cycle is performed?

I am assuming the Help->Restart is effectively the same as a reboot performed when updates are pushed, meaning any morning we could wake up to a non-functional Tivo until a power cycle is performed.

    Thank you,

    Brad

Cold reboot and Help Restart did nothing to improve the signal for me with the beta update.

I find that those help sometimes. I have definitely seen where doing the Help->Restart does nothing to help it. However, a full plug pull doesn't fix the issue every time. I sometime have to do multiple full reboots to get any signal to come in. Once I do get it, I am still not getting a full signal as I do not ever get my premium channels since the update (missing GoT...not happy).

Anyone have any updates or news on this issue? It's been a while since I've heard anything. I am still having problems, but it's slightly better than it was originally. I get most channels ok right now, just not some of my higher channels, which include all my premium channels.

My update is that they have sent me a new box, but that's it...no power cable, so I have to remove the old one from my AV closet, which is a pain to do just to test. I needed the power cable so that I could have both connected to transfer too. So, for now the replacement (refurb, btw...) is just sitting here because I don't want to go through the hassle of setting it up.

Still an issue for me after the beta update, I sent feedback but have yet to hear anything. I'd like to know if your replacement works.

That is how they do replacements. They only send you the unit with no accessories as you have all the accessories when you purchased the unit.
You will have 30 days to send the other unit back or you will be charged for the box. They should have emailed you an RMA for the old unit with a printable UPS return label.
If the replacement box is on your account and the original is removed the clock is ticking down.

One major piece of advice to do before you unhook your old unit is to change the name of the DVR to the last 4 digits of the boxes TSN. I ran into this issue when I had my Premieres replaced as I had two boxes with the same name on my TiVo Online account.

I'm just going to send back the unit they sent. I was very explicit when talking to them that I was unwilling to lose everything that I had already taped...they gave a couple of thoughts on how to get around it, but they won't work with how they sent it out (basically, no power cord for the second unit so that I can plug them both in and transfer).

So, I'm back to square one and now unwilling to help them. They can figure this **** out some other way. It is absolutely ridiculous that this has gone on this long and they are still fumbling around with it. I'm really close to being done with TiVo after this one...not sure I could bring myself to buy another one if this one died.

Thanks...couple of things though. The point is that TiVo, imo, should be doing more for us on this. They asked to send me a replacement to help them in diagnosing what is going on...the least that they could do is help make it easy for me. They told me that to transfer my recordings, I could order service on the new one, transfer, then cancel...really? Can't just turn it on for me to make it easier to transfer?

Second thing is that I don't actually think that cord would work. That looks just like the one that I have for my old TiVo, but it has a square-ish side. I tried that and it didn't work, the new TiVo has rounded on both sides. If I am mistaken, please let me know.

I was notified that RC21 was now in Beta and will fix all the Signal Problems, plus a Netflix hanging problem, but I have not been able to update. I force a connection and Roamio does it thing, but no new release. I emailed the beta team and they double checked my Roamio was in the right group, but after several Restarts, Power Cycles, 2 and 3 forced connects in a row over the last 26 hours does not install the new update. The beta team doesn't know what is wrong.

Have any of you other beta testers been able to pull down RC21 to your Roamio?

I haven't been able to get the update either, they told me it'd be Monday when they look at it.

I contacted Margret and Sarah as requested earlier in this thread, I was then contacted about the beta.
