Did you know that? He was born in 1934. I just found this out yesterday from a newspaper article about a local visit he made. I could have sworn he was in at least his 80s.

For reference, and to prove that I'm not wacky for thinking he's been old forever, when he made Cocoon in 1985 he was only 51 years old! To Don Ameche and Hume Cronyn he must have seemed like a kid!

Oh and he does indeed have "dia-beet-us", so his work for Liberty Medical is legit.

I have it on good authority that Wilford Brimley watches you while you sleep.

This isn't too much of a big deal NOW, since he's 73.

He first started doing senior citizen commercials back when he was still on Our House.

That was 21 years ago, the dude was only 53! He was playing the GRAMPA when normal guys would be playing their father on the show. I mean think about it: Shannen Doherty's parents on 90210 would be his CONTEMPORARIES hehehe.

I wonder when he finally came to terms with looking older. At first, you'd be like, "I'm 43 years old and look like I'm 60, maaaaaan" but then suddenly you'd be getting all these roles that the old folks couldn't.

It was a missed opportunity! He should have played like a 70-year-old Jack Bauer in 1982. That would have rocked.

One of my favorite SNL skits involves the actor (I can't remember who, though) portraying Wilford Brimley for his diabetes commercials.

"Heck I don't even know if I have diabetes. The producers just think I look like a man who might have diabetes..."

Definite wow. He's always looked old. Same with my gramma. She's looked the same since I remember, but she was in her 60's when I was born. She made it to the late 90's but still looked like she hadn't aged. To me she just always looked old.

Now my boss is 91 and he looks like he's in his 70's.

WOW I didn't know he was so young. I wish he would get more work. He was great in The Firm.

My husband is still convinced that he's dead. Every time I see a new diabetes commercial I tell him, see...he's not dead. This is a new commercial. And hubby just goes, he must've just recorded it before he died.

I can't believe it! I used to watch 'Our House', and I'd have sworn then that he was in his 60's or 70's.

That poster is going to give me nightmares tonight, I just know it.

I'm shocked to hear how young he is.

I was also shocked to hear, not long ago, that Harrison Ford is older now then Sean Connery was when Sean Connery played Harrison Ford's father in The Last Crusade.

I wish! I could only dream of growing a mustache as cool as Wilford Brimley's! Mine just won't get that bushy.

My favorite Wilford Brimley character was when he was Postmaster General Henry Atkins on Seinfeld.

"In addition to being a postmaster, I'm a general. And we both know, it's the job of a general to, by God, get things done." :)

Funny this should come up. Very recently, I had read [RE: The Natural] that despite the age gap in their roles, he and Redford were only a year or two apart.

I was totally shocked then... so, not so shocked now.
