    Huh?

TiVo is losing customers who buy TiVo. Don't give me the numbers of tivos delivered by cable systems. Those customers aren't choosing TiVo.

Directv had been gaining customers for years.

Okay. Peace. It came off as telling me what I should value. I accept your explanation.

    2015Q2 DirecTV lost 133K subscribers.
In 2015Q3 they gained 22K subscribers.
Not sure what they did in Q4.

Years. Not one quarter. Meanwhile TiVo is bleeding retail customers and cut 50 jobs this week.

That's a good point. Still, I don't see why it needs to be either/or... After all, what good is cake if you can't eat it, too?...

I used side-by-side PIP many hours per day on Dish. PIP, and the ability to not have to hit pause to maintain your position (when behind live) when swapping back and forth between two tuners, are the two things I miss the most these past two years I've had a roamio. Oh, and not having a one hour buffer.

DirecTV had gains year to year....while TiVo lost Retail Customers, so yes, one is gaining users....one is losing users.

Nothing is ESSENTIAL on a TiVo.

But, like all the other features, it would be a nice addition.

I don't watch sports but I've wished I had it multiple times. I have video baby monitors and sometimes it'd be nice to be able to have them up while watching TV. Also exercise videos: it'd be great to have it playing in a corner while also watching a show.

I don't understand why some of the people who wouldn't use it are adamantly against it for everyone.

I've always thought PiP was a neat idea, but never worked very well for me.

I like sports, but I only have one team I care to watch in any given time slot.

With the Olympics coming up this Summer, there will be multiple events across 8 or so channels simultaneously, and side-by-side PIP is great for at least swapping between 2 of them.

Why don't you just hit record to avoid accidentally changing channels on one of them?

I usually only seriously "use" buffering for CNN late night background noise (buffer up some before I intend to go to sleep so I can still FF through some boring parts or commercials)... but even then, I changed channels once over the weekend. If it were something I were seriously watching, I'd hit record.

I don't need PIP but I don't care if TiVo puts it in, except if that time could be used for better options I would use, like skip.

Most, if not all, TVs I've owned since 1991 had PiP or PoP. I think I've only tried it two or three times during the last 25 years.

I agree - no use for PIP, though DirecTV Mix Channels were very convenient - as is the buffer on DirecTV recorders and 1 tuner per channel TiVo could not perfect.

I tend to agree with you. In a perfect world where TiVo had unlimited resources I would have no issue with pretty much any UI added feature. However in the real world I ask is the feature something that lots of people want, can TiVo deliver the feature without causing other problems, will it delay or prevent something more important from being developed or getting fixed, and will spending money on the feature enhance or deteriorate TiVo's financial position.

PiP would be a really, really good feature for TiVo to do, and is something that is easy to explain as a differentiator from their crappy cableco DVR. It's relatively easy to add, and relatively easy to understand for the user as to what it does and why they might want it.

I think TiVo should add PiP.

It seems to me that if the hardware readily supports PiP it would be a relatively easy feature to add. I for one would use it on occasion.

The Roamio has PIP between the menus and one channel, so the hardware could support it, I would guess.
