It was only three episodes but I hope there will be more. Had quite a time remembering where I had seen Aurilio Zen, the lead character. Rufus Sewell was Tom Builder in Pillars of the Earth. Anyone else a Masterpiece Mystery fan like me?

The Sherlock Holmes episodes turned me onto the program, I set an SP and have been watching Piorot, the Zen one's are sitting on the Tivo awaiting my attention.

The Zen ones were very good. I could live without the Poirot and Marple episodes.

Zen also reminded me of the Wallander series, but without the depressing aspects.

It struck me as odd as nearly everyone but the secretary had English accents. I'm fine with actors not using a locale-specific accent, but it seems off when only some of them do it, especially when they're clearly supposed to be locals.

Personally, I thought Zen was absolutely horrid - plodding and tedious. My mother fell asleep during two of them, and I only got through the last one out of sheer willpower. Happily, the BBC decided not to commission any more episodes, though it's possible that a foreign broadcaster might step in to foot the bill.

Obviously BBC1 programmers moonlight at Fox. ;)

I enjoyed the Zen episodes, especially the aspects of how an honest detective like him had to carefully navigate the corruption in the Italian police and government. And Caterina Murino, who played his lover Tania, is a yummy bombshell in the best Italian tradition.

    high desert...
I like Rufus Sewell a lot, especially in The Illusionist, A Knight's Tale, Dark City, and others. I really, REALLY wanted to like Zen, but there were no characters I liked other than Zen himself. I unfortunately have to agree with what taronga says below:
It seems to stretch the bounds of improbable to impossible for Zen to actually be an honest cop given the corruption in the system. I just didn't believe it.

I thought that Caterina Murino was like a model trying to act rather than an actual actress. I thought this when I saw her in Casino Royale too, but IMDB shows she has a lot of acting credits, so maybe it's the way she was directed that I didn't like.
