Now that I've sprung for a new Roamio Pro with PLS, I'm trying to figure out which of my two other Tivos to sell.

We've got two TVs, and my current setup is a 2008 Tivo HD (upgraded to a 1TB hard drive in 2009) and a 2012 Premier (with the standard 500GB drive). Both old Tivos have PLS. Based on Ebay completed listings, I think I could get $125 for the HD and about $200 for the Premiere -- does that sound right?

What's the best move here? I think I've got three choices: (1) sell the HD, (2) sell the Premiere, or (3) sell both and roll a portion of the funds into a new Mini on the second TV to make the Roamio a whole-home box.

I would let go of the HD for sure and replace it with a mini. The Premiere, assuming it was a 2 tuner, I would also swap for a mini unless you are considering ever dropping cable and going to OTA. Don't get the minis directly from Tivo though, they are cheaper off of Amazon, Ebay, BB, etc.

Keep in mind if you go down to one device if it fails or the cablecard in it fails you have no TV at all till fixed.

Is 6 tuners enough? Sell both and buy a mini. Amazon generally sells the mini for $120, no need to wait for woot.

I'd be tempted to hang on to something that can get the local OTA stations as a backup in case cable goes out.

The premiere can do most everything a mini can do except allocate a live tuner from the roamio, plus you have 2 extra tuners, although you would need a second cable card to record cable tv.

if you are paying for the second cable card the best option is to sell and get mini
in my case the cable card is 10.00 a month
