It's an indication to me that Apple has no desire whatsoever to compete in the sub-$100 streaming device market. Along with the fact that they've rolled out their Apple TV app to just about all other platforms too.

Now that it has the Apple TV app, I don't think the new Chromecast with Google TV is missing any of the major apps. Although I think Android TV is still missing a few of the TVE apps for certain cable channels.

The Spectrum app offered by my cable company is only available on Apple TV. They use to have a Roku app too, but they discontinued it recently.

Rumor are that next AppleTV will use an M1x or M2 chip and have a more user friendly remote.

Sure, AppleTV hardware will continue to be a high-end product.

I think Apple does recognize the value to their Mac, iPhone, and iPad users to be able to use AirPlay on other platforms. Given how much more money those products make for Apple than AppleTV hardware does, it is a pretty easy decision to make that technology available broadly.

AppleTV+ on other platforms is about growing a new source of revenue which requires supporting the major players in the space.

That would be a huge increase in performance. Unless they are really aggressively going up against PS5 and Xbox, I cannot imagine why they would need to do that. If they do, it will likely be out of my price range.

That's what i was doing as well, then i got a service i can't stream on TiVo. Disney+, Peacock and Discovery+. I was also annoyed at the startup times as well as the Prime apps tendency to crash the TiVo.

I just started using a Chromecast With Google TV.

This is the Chromecast that comes with a remote control for selecting apps, and starting/pausing/scanning/stopping streams. I'm liking the convenience of using the remote control versus using my phone for control. And the remote controls tv on/off and volume, plus has a mute button.

I'm retiring my phone from home streaming to the TV.

App list for Chromecast with Google TV:

    Netflix
    Youtube
    Youtube TV
    Youtube Music
    Prime Video
    Disney+
    Sling TV
    Hulu
    HBOmax
    Apple TV
    Fubo TV
    Philo
    Pluto TV
    Paramount+
    IMDb TV
    Discovery+

Mute button is right beneath the black Google assistant button and above the Netflix button on the remote. Speaker with an X
