Hey all. I have a roamio now but plan to move to a bolt with my new 4ktv. Is there any reason, other then warranty, to not just buy the cheapest model and put my own hard drive in? Seems like a no brainer, unless there is some other technical difference I'm missing in the models. I have a roamio basic now and hate having the Moca adapter external lol

Standard Bolt, 500GB or 1TB, 4 tuners, but can be used on both CATV and OTA. Bolt+, 3TB, 6 tuners, but can only be used on CATV.

From my understanding, the differences are what fcfc2 said. I ordered the 500GB Bolt, and a 3TB Toshiba drive, to upgrade the storage. The drive was about $135, so it should cost me about $35 more than a 1TB Bolt from TiVo, with 3x the storage. It seems like a good plan to me, we'll see how it goes when the Bolt arrives.

Thanks all. I don't need 6 tuners, it's been maybe twice in 2 years I've had all 4 in use on roamio. I'll likely go with a 500gb and get something like a 2gb drive
