Costco has the Seagate 750GB FreeAgent Pro External Hard Drive for $250 after instant discount
I think I'm going to get one, and replace the internal drive with it. Then I can add a second later. I like the idea of keeping them both external.
I just can't remember if that particular Seagate was a good fit with the S3 - off to do some searching of the forum...
OK, just remember that you need to go from eSATA to SATA with the cable and you need a way to get the cable outside the S3.
Yup, in another thread someone posted a link to http://www.satacables.com/ which has the cables you need to convert the internal drive to an external.
It's certainly the case that I wouldn't recommend the ES drive, but the SV drive is designed for extended lifetime in continuous use - slow seeks, etc. Given that the drive mechanism itself should be almost identical, it should have similar noise characteristics to the DB35 series.
I just mention it as being possibly just as good if not a little better than any non-SCE drive and potentially available at better pricing.
Yes, I too would guess that those are idle level and seek level (and no, I'm not an idiot). I just mentioned performance mode because that's exactly what it said on the product sheet from Seagate. It is crazy, but it is true that the seek noise from the 7200.10 is driving me crazy as well.
