Looked but can't find the full answer to this...

My boyfriend has a Bolt and 3 Mini Vox's. He just canceled his cable and has no interest in OTA. He wanted to continue to use all the boxes as streamers only.

I told him (and believe I confirmed) that the Bolt will not allow streaming apps (Netflix, Hulu, Prime) without a subscription. Is that correct?

If he can live without that spare room TV for streaming and cancels his TiVo service, will the 3 Mini Vox's continue to function and be able to be used for streaming apps?

They would basically have no host to connect to any longer. Without an active subscription (besides the Vox's) on his account, would the Vox's continue to function for streaming apps?

No joy in either scenario. However paying for the main box will give life to all your minis. Not a bad deal.

    Thanks for the reply.

What exactly will happen to the Minis without the Bolt host?

They will ask you to select a host. If that host is grayed out due to not being valid, you can't select it.

But would streaming apps like Netflix will function?

Would it make any difference if the Bolt was kept on the network withOUT a sub?

(I know I’m reaching here lol)

I can't answer that. My three Mini each has a valid host.

Boy, Mini VOX boxes comes at a pretty penny, even as used. If there's no interest in a TiVo box as a DVR, wouldn't it make sense to sell the Mini VOX boxes (as well as the Bolt box) and purchasing Roku or Fire, etc. streaming devices for each of the TVs, which are superior to TiVo devices for streaming, and making a profit from all of this besides?

Most recent TVs have some sort of smart platform which supports most major streaming services. He may be able to meet his streaming needs just from the built-in capability of the TV.

    Yep.

He just likes the Minis and was hoping to continue to use them without subscription.

You can still watch all the recorded shows on the Tivo. The Mini's have a good used resale value. The Tivo not much value.
