I understand that Tivo is going out of business in 2012.
I am wondering: what will happen to my lifetime service when this happens? My DVR is still working. Will I still be able to use it & Tivo or will the service simply stop working? Anyone know?

    Thanks..

TiVo is not going out of business this year. Financially they are in better shape then they have been in in a long time!

The conjecture is that they are ripe to be purchased by someone...

If they do, I suspect your service would be fine.

Thanks Bradleys. I thought they were going out of business because AOL news had them on a list of "10 companies going out of business in 2012"

Glad I won't be losing their service because I really enjoy it. I also gave my old DVR to my brother & bought him a lifetime service also.
    He likes his too.

Mattack, I'm not a "troll" but you're certainly rude.
I'm pretty sure you had a 1st post too at one time, as did all of us..

He did not say you were a troll, he suspected you were one. This board has had lots of one-time-posters who dump and run after saying inflamatory statements about tivo or their products. (criticism is ok on the board, however)

To be honest, I also suspected as much. Good to hear that you are not. Unfortunately, you were lured in by a poorly written article which did not have a complete understanding of TiVo's recent influx of cash, future cash flows, and new strategies with traditional cable outlets.

Glad these folks could help arrest your fears.

The mind tends to react to patterns. However innocently, you followed the pattern of a troll or worse, so you got that kind of response.

A typical person reading a damaging rumor online about a well-known company might well come to a forum and ask, as his very first question, whether it's true. But troll or someone with a mal-agenda (stock manipulation or whatever) would instead phrase a question designed to further the rumor, IOW starting with the premise that the damaging rumor is true.

Is this considered rolling out the welcome mat for a new poster? Nice work.

Cox is right. That is the article I was referring to.

Sorry I did not word my question in an acceptable manner.
I didn't really know what a troll was, just that it didn't sound very flattering.
(I thought a troll was an ogre that lives under a bridge, lol)

Anyway, Thanks for the explanation & the helpful info..
    Much appreciated.

There's a whole separate thread dedicated to that AOL article and how wrong it is.
