We have a Pioneer Series 2 DVR at home, but we are becoming snowbirds soon and will head in our motor coach to an RV resort in Arizona for six months.

The resort has free satellite TV (likely a cable at each site from a communal dish). Can I buy a Series 3 TIVO box and use this to record as I do at home? What units might be best. Don't particularly care about HD, just want to record all of our shows. Any help??

A Series 2 would do what you want, IF there's a lineup for your resort (go to www.zap2it.com and enter the resort's zip code to see). A Series 3 may or may not work for you here but would add no value at all and would cost much more.

Without a lineup for the resort, you can record manually but program descriptions will be wrong or unavailable.
