We haven't had TV for a few years now. We subsist solely on Netflix, Amazon, and some Hulu. Because of no TV, I also miss hearing about a lot of shows that come out...basically if they don't have a subway billboard I don't know that it exists. From last season I think I saw two shows, Terriers (which we saw first run via Amazon) and Good Guys (which we didn't discover until after it had already been canceled and was on Netflix streaming).

So both of those were discovered mostly by chance, so I figure there are some other new shows that are good that I haven't heard of, or haven't heard enough about to give a try. What are they?

Breaking Bad, Sons of Anarchy and Walking Dead.

Also, Episodes on Showtime was very good once you get past the first episode.

Ditto all the above plus Justified and Boardwalk Empire though I don't think you can get HBO shows on Netflix.

Both seasons of Louie on FX have been incredible.

My two favorite new shows I've discovered this year are Justified (discovered it when they reran season 1 right before season 2 started) and Suits (started with the pilot this summer).

You would be in the minority to think so.

Since we seem to agree on the ones you HAVE watched, I highly recommend you try the ones you haven't. :)

Thanks all for some good suggestions. For this thread I was specifically thinking of shows that started last season that I might have missed and might be coming out on DVD around now. Boardwalk Empire is one that I've been looking forward to, I'll check out some of the others also.

I am watching several of the longer running shows mentioned already (Breaking Bad, Dexter, Walking Dead, Chuck, and just started SoA)

For those that like Fringe, I want to ask does it get better? This is the kind of show that I normally like, but I watched a few episodes of the first season and just wasn't getting into it.

Fringe definitely gets better. Last season's storyline was awesome. I liked it well enough the first season, but was still really more into Lost. But now that Lost is gone, Fringe is probably the "weird" show I like the best.

Fringe starts to develop an overarching plot rather than just a monster of the week type feel.

I'd add Game of Thrones to the list. And yes - FRINGE does get better. There are also now two short videos the show has put out, narrated by John Noble, designed to bring new viewers up to speed:

Season 3 is very mythology-heavy (and is great overall). If you want to catch up from the beginning while skipping most of the "monster of the week" stuff, here's a list of the essential episodes:

    1.11, “Bound”
    1.14, “Ability”
    1.17, “Bad Dreams”
    1.19, “The Road Not Taken”
1.20, “There’s More Than One of Everything”
    2.15, “Jacksonville”
    2.16, “Peter”
2.19, “The Man from the Other Side”
    2.20, “Brown Betty”
2.22 and 2.23, “Over There (Parts I and II)”

    Then all of Season 3.

Thanks! Will try to give it another try. Although Lost is another show that I wasn't able to get into, although I watched all of the first season and parts of the second.
