I'm considering upgrading my remaining tivo from a series 2 to an S3 or HD. I would probably transfer my subscription over. So my questions are, what can I do with the old tivo?

I already know I cannot record stuff (either automatically or manually). but can I do the following:

    1) Watch the shows I have already recorded on the discontinued S2. There's a lot of programs I haven't caught up on yet, but I'd still like to be able to watch them.

    2) Use MRV to transfer shows from the discontinued S2 to the HD when MRV becomes available on the HD.

    3) Use TTGB to transfer recordings from my PC to the discontinued S3 and watch them.

You can do #1, but not #2, or #3. You can also watch live TV and pause, ff, or rewind the 30 minute buffer.

Other than that, the unit will not perform any other functions.

If you want to Xfer shows to the S3, use TivoToGo to xfer them to the PC before disconnecting the S2, then xfer them to the S3/THD once TTGB is available on the S3/THD.

You can do 2 & 3 & manually record if you can keep the S2 on the network but prevent it from accessing the internet before you actually have service removed from it.
How long you'll be able to do this is another question, but at minimum you have 30 days at max you have forever.

In this situation, you can only use MRV for about 15 days before it shuts off. Manual time/channel recordings work for at least 45 days.
