That is exactly why I watched it. And exactly why I hated the ending. And why I won't be in for a season 2.

To me, its just too bad they didn't have this plan from the beginning- could have taken their time telling the story and wouldn't have had to cram all the books into 10 episodes.

The finale made it so I had no desire to continue watching even if it was renewed.

    Finale spoilers
But, I suppose what they did, they HAD to do in order to make it possible to renew the show given that it was made a while back and most or many of the actors were not going to be available. So might as well just reboot and do whatever you want with the characters, eliminating any actors you need?

Only watched it because Shannyn Sossamon was in it (big fan of A Knight's Tale). Gave up after the plot was revealed. Tried watching it a couple times later, still have the last 3 episodes to go. Sossamon hasn't tweeted anything about it so I doubt she's coming back.

EDIT: Strike that, looks like she'll be back:

But that's from September 30, so what's the news today?

The other thing about Wayward Pines is that the first episode or two aired during May sweeps, which contributed to to why I thought it was "ten and done". At that time, getting a 1.0 in live demo for a premier was pretty much a cancellation.

Of course, kicking off a summer show in the middle of May sweeps is odd too.

Not sure if you know this but Sossamon is currently a regular on Sleepy Hollow.
Don't know how long her commitment is though so her schedule might be open for Wayward Pines.

How is that article from Sept. 30 talking about a S2 for Wayward Pines, when the EW article posted in the OP is dated Dec. 9 and is essentially breaking the news that the show has been renewed for S2?

I just started reading the third book in the trilogy, and I don't get how they say the whole thing was covered in season 1. They changed the ending a little, and I don't see how anything from the third book has been covered. I'm really enjoying the books, so I'll be back to see what they do with the show.

She's the Big Bad this season, so I'm guessing it's not TOO long-term... ;)

Wait, this is coming back to me.. Wasn't Wayward Pines actually filmed a year or two ago? I thought this was one of those weird cases where it was shelved for a long time then finally ran....?

Yes. I think it was filmed in late 2013/early 2014 with the intention to air in midseason or summer 2014 but it got shelved for some reason. In fact, several of the actors then moved on to other shows which then came out before WP ever aired, such as Terrence Howard (Empire) and Juliet Lewis (Secrets and Lies).

Kinda poetic how the show was put in deep freeze for a while, then thawed out later for release.

Ok I actually enjoyed the series (except for the finale, it should have just ended with everyone being killed by the abbies and humanity finally going extinct) and hoped it ended there as a nice little package. They can only ruin it!

Take "Helix" for example. I really enjoyed most of season one and then system two destroyed the show and it was canceled.

Damn. I was curious to see where the next season would go, especially with them painting themselves into an interesting corner by having a far-future plot line attached to it.

I rather enjoyed season 2. Not as good as season 1, and almost a totally separate show at times, but Steven Weber as a crazy cult leader worked pretty well for me.

Wow, already? I'm intrigued. Not because I have enormously high hopes about where this can go, but I am curious.

I'm hopeful but the season looks more action oriented than mystery, which is what I liked about season 1. Not sure if I'll like this direction, but we'll see.

OK, it's shown in that trailer (which I skimmed through), but I didn't realize until I read a bit on a "Summer TV" article that Jason Patric is the lead in this season.
