I pulled the HD from my series 1 Tivo and want to completely erase it before discarding. I hooked it up to my Windows 7 machine but cannot see the drive. I understand there are some extra steps/software needed but I am not sure what to do. Suggestions?

It won't appear normally in Windows since it's a Linux-formatted drive that Windows doesn't recognize.

Right-click on Computer in the Start menu of Win7 and select "Manage." Then go into the Disk Management area on the left-hand side. The drive should appear there. You should be able to right-click on it there and select "Format." If you really want to make sure everything is wiped from the drive, though, I recommend grabbing the Universal Boot CD and using one of the wiping tools on that, like DBAN.
