He even told Carl that he cannot let his actions go unpunished. There is no dictator ever, in the entire history of mankind, who could afford to let an assassination attempt go unpunished

Although he did punish Rosita...having an innocent person die as a result of her action was worse for her than dying herself (which it was pretty clear was her desired outcome). Same thing he did with Darryl on the road. On top of that, knowing that Eugene sacrificed himself for her.

As for Carl, I think he knows that killing Carl would be the last straw for Rick. And he feels that Rick is broken enough to be a good leader for Alexandria (he said as much this week). He also seems to see something in Carl. It looks like he just doesn't know what to do.

In general, I think like Negan has an exaggerated sense of how thoroughly he has destroyed people, and enjoys seeing people he thinks he has destroyed too much to actually kill them.

Or, it could be a new character who hadn't been cast yet when the episode was shot.

That was how they introduced Michonne. They had a quick shot of her without showing her face in the final episode of Season 2 because they hadn't yet cast Danai Gurira to play the role. Gurira debuted in the first episode of Season 3.

One thing that stood out to me in the shot of the boot is that it appears to be a few sizes too big for the person wearing it.

This makes me think that the person in the boots is probably a woman.

Then the logical question would be, why do you participate in threads like this? With so many people speculating about every possible direction the plot can go, some of them are bound to be right. To be honest, I kind of regret reading all the Westworld threads for this exact reason. I loved the show, but I think it would have been even more enjoyable if I had let the mysteries unfold organically.

There was little excuse for Carl last week missing his opportunity since he went to kill Negan. Remember though that the Alexandria group has no guns, just Rosita and her one bullet. Their town is full of enemies with guns who seem loyal to Negan and probably would massacre the entire town if it happened. Look what they did to Aaron just for fun.

It's easy to say they missed their opportunity, but I would think if any of us were in that situation that we would be sitting on our hands also and not rocking the boat and possibly sacrificing ourselves and others.

It's surprising no one there thought of a scene from Schindler's List... As soon as the lady on the porch was killed, the obvious answer to the question of who made the bullet is her. Eugene or Rosita should have thought of that.

Exactly. Simply killing Negan won't solve their problem. In fact, it would make it worse. For now, he is the only person keeping his people in line. Father Gabriel alluded to this in his talk with Rosita. Negan needs to be taken out, but there must be a solid plan in place first.

They never had zombie movies. Maybe they never had the holocaust?

    And?

The long haired freaky kid jumped in the back of a truck and went all the way to their compound JUST to kill him. Didn't care if he died in the process. Took out two of his men and had Negan in his sights and didn't. They all WANT to kill him, regardless of what the outcome or how it will solve their problems. But none of them have the STONES. I've lost a lot of respect for these characters this season. Someone should have taken one for the team.

What I don't get is why didn't Rick or Aaron tell the Saviors that they found that note. Neither of them spoke up? Each had ample opportunity to explain, even if you are threatened, you can blurt out: "we didn't write it"? Takes about 1.5 seconds. SMH. Awful writing IMO. Or better yet, why did they even bring the note back?

But you completely missed my point. It's not about having the balls to go out there and kill him. Most of them are smart enough to realize that even if they are willing to sacrifice themselves, it will only lead to more trouble for their friends and loved ones. Negan knows this, which is precisely why he allows himself to be so exposed. Carl, being young and impetuous, failed to see the big picture.

Here's something I read in another forum. I'm wondering if this could be a tie-in with "boots"...

When Darryll was escaping and he was in Dwight's room he stopped and looked at some bric-a-brac on the table. Someone posted that there was something there (a snowglobe?) which belonged to Enid. Putting two-and-two together, is it possible that "boots" is Enid out spying for the Saviors?

It was a plot device. Rick needed to see yet again just what kind of hate filled animals they are dealing with in order to come to the conclusion at the end of the episode that it is time to fight back.

I thought I heard one of the guys doing the beating mumble something like "Its not even about that" in regards to the letter.

I got your point, I just don't agree with it.

I don't think they're that smart at all.

If they were, why did Carl get in the truck and kill two of Neegans men, but then freeze? Negan should have killed him right there and if Carl was "smart" he would have known Negan was going to kill him and taken him out. The whole time he was with Negan, the thought was that Negan might eventually kill him (after toying with him), but he still couldn't do it.

If they were, why did Rosita use her only bullet to try and shoot him in the face? Only to be thwarted by a combination of bad aim and a baseball bat.

It's not about them being smart enough the realize what would happen. They've proven they're not that smart. But when it comes down to it, they don't/can't/won't.

Unfortunately, the bad writing often makes it difficult to discern exactly what's going on in the show. Both of those scenes you mentioned were poorly written and felt very contrived. I'd have to go back and re-watch the scene, but I though Carl legitimately tried to kill Negan with the machine gun but somehow failed to do so.

Negan seems to have a soft spot for the people with enough balls to take action against him. I'm guessing he thinks they'll make good Saviors. As for consequences, Olivia got the consequence for Rosita's actions. I'm guessing we've yet to see the retaliation for Carl'a actions.
I don't think they brought the note back. I think there was probably a similar note inside all those bins.

I don't think we can assume that. We don't know the exact timeline.

But maybe the bric-a-brac and "boots" have nothing to do with each other. Did anyone else figure out what the significance of the bric-a-brac was to Daryll?
