Which was my complaint...
It's been indicate that Mac "Tina Majorino" was not in it because she would only be peripheral like Parker was and she wanted more. It seems season 5 if it does happen might play very different from the early years. This article posts thoughts on that.
Googling on Veronica Mars Season 4 will indicate a bunch of reviewers were upset either about the direction or how rushed the ending was played out. And as we have discussed above it seems long odds that Penn was successful at it.
It wasn't a cop car; police in California have red and blue flashers. It was a parking enforcement car with yellow lights. And that's exactly how they do it here; parking wardens show up exactly at the time specified and quickly give everyone a ticket.
The cartel muchachos were the ones talking about a street cleaning ticket at night; the scene where Logan got bombed took place in bright daylight.
I do agree that he was getting a bit bland. I never found him to be eye candy though. I just fought against giving a crap about the two of them for the entirety of season 2 then finally gave in and so now I feel this was a slap in the face to those of us that actually cared. I would have rather him just left and maybe come back later for some more drama. This just wasn't what I signed up for on this show. Funny how I rarely ever care about relationships on a show end up being one that was a make or break in the end. Who knew!
But why have them at all? It just seemed out of place for the show.
Based on that article, it seems RT really wants to make a different show, and NOT Veronica Mars. I'd almost wish they'd do 2 shows... 1 where Veronica goes off as a detective, and one where the girl who runs the motel (forget her name) goes to the new Kane High, where Wallace works, and works for Keith Mars at Mars Detective Agency, as a semi-reboot/continuation of the OG Veronica Mars series, for those fans who want that show instead.
I think in addition to the limited profanity they wanted to push the grownup factor. It’s not high school any more plus it’s no longer broadcast restrained. She is in her 30s. Funny how that can be an issue and blowing off people’s heads are not.
Why not have them? The first one showed us that VM and Logan were a passionate, committed couple who hadn't seen each other for quite a while. Perfectly within character. The second one told viewers that VM was dealing with feelings for Leo and it was portrayed much better than if she had simply said, "I had a sex dream about Leo." Besides, what character is she close enough to that she would confide something like that?
Veronica was kind of a dick the whole season. I see her written as somewhat damaged goods, which is appropriate to an adult private eye; I cite her drug use, binge drinking, her various betrayals, and her treatment of Logan. It's not hard to feel this is understandable considering what she went through the first three seasons. IRL someone who dealt with so many murders in such a short time would certainly have some level of PTSD.
I think this makes VM a less likable but more interesting character. I think without this change the new series would have fallen as flat as the movie did.
Her treatment of Weevil was even worse.
Not even eye candy. HS Logan was way hotter. He's way overbuilt now. (Fortunately he was 22 when the series started so no need to lock me up.)
I read Mac didn't come back because of scheduling. Of course that may just be the cover story.
And yet he saved her once again.
It's weird to have the season end with Veronica devastated but it not set up the next. She knows who killed Logan so there's no mystery there. I guess the challenge of keeping him in jail.
Overall I enjoyed the new season but not as much as the initial run. I know they wanted to make it darker but it's kind of annoying since it's been such a great show to watch with my teen. I'd rather skip the gore but it's not the end of the world. I don't mind the sex but when I was a teen it certainly wasn't something I wanted to watch with my parents!
Also Logan bring dead doesn't mean he's gone. Remember how much we saw of Lily.
I really enjoyed it and I hope we get more VM. Considering they were reviving a series that was set in high school/college, I thought they did a pretty good job of getting the band back together. Sad we didnt see more of Little Dick.. maybe that will be in the next season. Be nice if they could get the Comrade Quack girl as a regular too.. maybe she could be VM's sidekick.
If you read some of the links above it appears Little Dick was doing a movie. They slipped in people as they could besides the fact they were mostly cameos with no real story significance. The movie gave them more moments than this.
Here is hoping future seasons are tighter. You can read the other links to see where Robb wants to go. BTW there really are no spoilers about the future in the articles if you are worried just an overall darker Veronica feeling.
I thought it seemed like there was a lot of Dick in the season. I would say appearance-wise, it went Veronica, Keith, Logan then Dick...(for returning characters)
Lots of Big Dick.
Finished tonight. The instant Penn said something like "if you're still around" when he was sitting in the police car I knew there was another bomb and that someone was not going to make it. The instant Logan said he was going to move the car I knew it was him.
I think too many people are reading too much into Penn's plans. I'm sure that the bomb at the school was real, and I'm sure Penn didn't assume that Veronica and Keith would find it. If they hadn't found it, it would have gone off and killed a bunch of people. The backpack bomb was him planning ahead: just in case. If he got past the school bombing without being discovered (if they believed that Don was the bomber for example) he could just deactivate the backpack bomb. He had plenty of time.
All the bombs, including the backpack, were on a timer. Veronica drove her car all around (to the wedding, back again, etc.): it couldn't have been on any kind of motion sensor or anything. Of course Penn couldn't be sure anyone would be in the car when it went off, and he couldn't be sure they wouldn't notice the backpack, or many other things. That's why he said "if you're still around". Veronica just got unlucky. That's legitimate, even on a TV show.
To me it was dumb because if a suspected bomber brings out a backpack to take with him you have to believe I'm going to be looking in it beforehand and it's hard to believe Penn would have risked it. If they'd looked in that backpack and discovered the bomb, that would have been the end right there.
Come on. The instant we see Logan actually show up for the wedding, we all knew he was as doomed as a cop turning in his retirement papers.
I don't think anyone was suggesting the backpack was just motion-sensor activated. One would assume that if there was a motion-sensor it was combined with a time delay; otherwise the backpack would have exploded when Penn picked it up as soon as he armed it. Instead, (presumably) it would be triggered by any motion after the appointed time, intending to kill either Veronica or someone close to her. IRL secondary charges are similarly used by bombers to inflict causalities on first responders.
I thoroughly enjoyed this season.
What I didn't enjoy is every headline about the season talking about the "shock ending", with some headlines alluding to something with Jason Dohring.
Pretty much made me think Logan was going to die in episode 8 the entire season.
I am not really upset at Logan's death, I don't know where they would go with them together in the future. It's just not that interesting.
This was one of the things I didn't like. The guy is basically telling Veronica, I LEFT A BOMB FOR YOU, and she's not understanding?
It was really really obvious.
Not like her at all.
I think they were trying to imply "if you haven't left town" as an alternative to "if you're not dead".
