Great insight, and I think you hit on what they were trying to do. Part of Veronica's growing up process, I think. She has a young person's conviction that if you are in the right, and find out the "truth' everything will turn out okay. And although thats the way it normally is in tv land, this show is willing to push the envelope enough to say sometimes thats not enough.. We also have to remember this is Neptune-there's probably a reason AE was willing to be tried there instead of asking for a another venue-he could have easily claimed it would be impossible to get a fair trial there with everybody knowing about the crime. But he didn't want a fair trial, did he?

Okay, here's what I at least half believe is going to happen. I'll warn though that my thought process is "cheating" a little, so read at your own risk:

If you accept the bus crash is the big mystery, and Woody and Kendall are the Big Bads, there seems to be only one character that can tie them all together because he's connected to both storylines. That would be the Beav...Plus, in the trailer VM is sobbing as she confronts the killer, which makes it seem like it was someone she likes and trusted. If it was Woody, or Kendall or Aaron, she might have a lot of reactions, but I don't think tears would be one of them.
Of course, I have to add a disclaimer. There's no reason both storylines have to be neatly concluded this season-one could easily continue over to next year.( I'd vote for Kendall-CC has been amazing as a villlian). Plus, VM has made an artform out of giving us red herrings in the trailers. At least twice recently, they offered up what look like huge clues in the upcoming scenes, only to deal with and dismiss them in the opening teaser. So who knows?
Thats the best my tired little brain can do anyways-and I'm probably wrong...

Oh, I agree. There was no reason to continue the AE storyline if they weren't going to find him innocent. This isn't Law & Order -- the trial, while interesting, isn't what we care about. One thing this result sets up is that, temporarily at least, the Mars family is again cast down in Neptune society. They're basically right back to where they were at the start of season 1. The Echolls defense successfully painted Veronica as a tramp, and Keith again went after the wrong guy (well, to Neptune he appears to have).

Man this is such an amazing show. Constantly keeps me enthrawled.

I seriously thought for a split second that Wallace was going to get shot.

So much packed into 45-ish minutes.

    Well,

She believes what he told her happened in the bedroom when she was drugged, for one thing. BTW, did you notice how they referenced that by having VM stop Gia from drinking the glass Madison gave her?
Veronica has always treated Beav as a kindred spirit, almost an outsider like herself. Sort of a 2nd string Wallace...the fact she approves of the Beav-Mac romance is also a good sign she trusts Beav, Mac being maybe her best female friend.

Hm... I have disagreements or a different take on virtually all of the above. To each his own!!

So next week is the season finale ... a lot of storylines to be wrapped up in one hour.

If the parallels to the OJ trial continue, the Kanes will file a civil suit, for all the good it will do them. Did I miss them in the courtroom or did they not bother to show up for the trial of the man accused of killing their daughter.

The Kanes were not present in the courtroom, at least as far as we were shown. I doubt they could afford to bring back the actors just for a brief appearance, and Kyle Secor is too busy with being the President's husband and all.

Given that Duncan was the one that Aaron was casting all the suspicion on, I have convinced myself (fanwanked) that was the reason the Kanes weren't there. They didn't want to see their precious Duncan so horribly slandered yadda yadda yadda, and didn't want to be in the same room with Aaron, etc. I imagine Jake held a press conference up in Napa or wherever the hell the Kanes are living now, or he released a statement or something.

I just watched the episode again. Good stuff. I loved Veronica's line "nobody likes a blonde in a hamster ball." Just before that, Veronica and Keith were watching Woody's press conference and Veronica said something about "his eyes are turning brown." I don't get that reference - can someone explain?

So what are all the mysteries/questions that need to be answered in the finale?

    Who caused the bus crash?
Why did Curly have Veronica's name on his hand?
    Who killed Curly?
    Did Woody molest some kids?
What happened to Cassidy - was he molested?
How does Kendra Casablancas tie in, if at all?
How do the Fitzpatricks tie in, if at all?
What's the deal with Cassidy's real estate scheme?
Where will Veronica go to college?

    What else am I missing?

I thought Veronica skipping the final exam was an extremely stupid thing to do. For one thing what kind of father would text message stuff to his daughter during finals week that would cause her extra anxiety? It just didn't make any sense at all. I know she wanted to "see" the verdict but the cost was way too high in my opinion.

No, Lynn did it and somehow is pinning it on Aaron to get him into more trouble. :)

When the chlamydia came out of left field last episode, I knew it was going to be used against VM. Whether VM really has chlamydia or whether her tests were tampered with (still my belief) is still up in the air but the it certainly did it's job.

When Logan destroyed the tapes, you knew the case was going to be a win for Aaron. Any highly paid defense attorney could pick apart witness testimony about a video.

This has really got to hurt Veronica. I mean she was nearly killed by the man. I think we'll see someone take justice into their own hands either next episode or next season after that kind of verdict.

I was a bit disappointed with the lack of anything after the Veronica/Logan fallout. I liked the line Veronica used in her head before she went to talk to Logan but otherwise they avoided that subject.

Did anyone else notice Lamb was taking Keith and Veronica a little more seriously? He did block them the first time when they wanted him to arrest Woody but he wasn't as well Lamb as he was last season.

But the police had the tapes for a time too. Didn't they look at them??

This is the question of the day. We are expected to believe that the ONLY people who ever watched those tapes are Logan and Veronica (and the MIA Duncan)? Please.

When Veronica handed over the tapes to the police at the end of the S1 season finale, I can't believe that nobody bothered to look at them to determine whether they had enough evidence to arrest Aaron for statutory rape and the murder of Lilly. There was no other physical evidence against him on those charges! The only way he could have been arrested for the rape and murder of Lilly was if the police and the DA saw those tapes.

So it made no sense that only Logan and Veronica were questioned about what they saw on the tapes. There should have been a whole lineup of witnesses, starting with Sheriff Lamb and several deputies, then people from the DA's office, etc.

Having said that, though, even if the jury believed that Aaron was having sex with Lilly on the tapes, I still think they could have acquitted Aaron of the murder charge. The evidence was circumstantial and sketchy at best and if they thought Veronica and Keith were total nutjobs (as the defense portrayed them) they could have acquitted him.

Excellent point. I hadn't considered that.

Plus we have to remember the planted evidence of the Oscar & Duncan's hair. Especially without the use of the tapes as evidence, this would probably introduce enough reasonable doubt.

Yeah, but there shouldn't be reasonable doubt as to whether he had sex with lilly, which is a felony anyway.
