I have a tivo that is under contract and one that i don't have tivo service connected. if they are both on a network, can i record off the under contract tivo, transfer the program to the non service tivo and watch it. basically making the 2nd one an additional hard drive for programs? Also, as long as i have a cable source going to the non service tivo, i should be able to set manual program recording, right? thanks in advance

    Unequivocally, no.

The practical answer that I suggest you just accept is again, no. However it is possible under certain circumstances, mainly being that the Tivo was subscribed at one time and that its network connection or phone line was removed before the subscription was cancelled and the tivo never be allowed to connect to the tivo mothership.

All Philips Series 1 TiVos and most Sony Series 1 TiVos can record without a subscription. If it is not a Series 1 then you need to refer to scandia's post.
