Unknown (to me) diagnostic mode

I just turned on the Bolt+ and found it in some unknown diagnostic mode.
The graphic overlay appears on every show. It disappears in the preview window. It does not appear over the menus. The Info button does not apparently function in this mode. The up/down buttons toggle the graphic from brighter/dimmer.

    The Bolt+ is running 20.7.4.RC42 with TE3.

Any ideas on how it got into this state or how to get out? There are active recordings so I don't want to reboot right now, but will resort to that as soon as.

Thumbs down -> Thumbs up -> Play -> Play

That resets the UI without restarting the TiVo. It's been a while since I've done it but I'm pretty sure it doesn't interrupt recordings. But even if it does it'll only be a few seconds, much better than a real restart.

Have you tried entering the newly discovered QuickMode SPS codes? Perhaps a typo in the sequence activated some other feature?

Thanks, that was my next step to look up that gui reboot sequence. I'll give it a shot...

[EDIT] Recordings seemed not to be interrupted, but it had no affect to the graphic overlay.

Matter of fact, that is what I was doing last. However, when I left the TV, that diagnostic mode was not in effect. But surely looks suspicious.

I wonder what that's actually for? And why is it only in the top-left 1/4 of the screen?

I wonder if it has anything to do with the video you're watching being SD?

That's the SPS7S diagnostic mode that KMTTG states only works for Series 3. It's used to align the image on the screen or something.

I'd just found it the same day the SPS7xS code was revealed.

Redoing the code and then changing screens was how I killed it.

Actually, the video is 720p and not B&W either. The moment captured is some footage of a Tom Lehrer performance in the PBS series "Chasing the Moon: American Experience". The graphic and button behavior appears on all shows, including live buffering, that I have looked at. None of the material sourced from SD broadcasts.

Ding ding ding! We have a winner!

I didn't note your saying "then changing the screens" afterward as part of the solution, so I originally didn't do that step. After multiple tries, the mode remained, so I rebooted.

Rebooting did seemingly return everything to normal. Then like Freddy Kreuger, it was back. It survived the reboot, although with delayed action.

So then I did SPS7S again, followed by changing screens. Freddy's, er I mean the diagnostic mode, is dead. :D

    Thanks @kpeters59!

When I first activated it, nothing seemed to happen.

Some time later, there it was.

Since I'd used KMTTG to activate it, I kinda new what caused it.

But, like you, re-entering the sequence didn't cure it.

However, I've used TiVo's long enough to know that some commands require switching screens.

Now, don't do it again...it really isn't good for anything!

This happened to me while playing with the quick play speed code. I couldn’t figure out how to get rid of it so I rebooted. That got rid of it.

I’m not sure what changing screens means, but for me it didn’t survive the reboot. I’ve gone to a bunch of different screens since rebooting and it didn’t come back.

That code is way too close to the SPS7#S code.

Simply going to the main menu with the Tivo button should get it. Left-arrow back to My Shows works. Guessing going to the Guide would do it, but that I haven't tried.

Weird that they would reuse a number like that for an SPS code
