Chris D'Elia (Danny) is a pretty successful stand up.

As you said, Ron Funches (Shelly) is a successful stand up.

And Brent Morin (Justin) and Rick Glassman (Burski) are also stand ups.

With prerecorded if they completely break character or can't deliver a line because they're laughing then they can do another take. Not so with a live broadcast.

In the West coast feed of the first episode there was a part where Justin is trying to deliver a serious line to Candice and he's barely holding back a laugh the whole time. It basically ruined the scene.

I don't know I feel like maybe this show has jumped the shark with this move.

I enjoy the breakdowns a lot.

It's just as entertaining to me, to see them lose their s*.

But it's a gimmick. It's funny for an episode, but not an entire season.

That's my feeling. A whole season of not playing it straight? That could hurt. Even the live show last year mostly played it straight. It was far more subtle.

I will put it this way. If the show started like this, I wouldn't be watching today.

Tonight was better. Not so much "we are live" in your face but winking acknowledgements.

And I'm pretty sure they were running short so Chris Delia had to stretch out the tears.

I thought the "surveillance camera" bit was good and also Danny's response to "everybody" yelling out Shelly's catchphrase.

Not sure he had to stretch out the tears or if he was trying to work them up.

I wonder if Justin accidentally called Danny Justin on the west coast airing.

We got the same airing. It said "recorded from an earlier live broadcast" at the start of the episode.

I think the live on both coasts gimmick was only for the premiere.

Okay, now we will see the ultimate test of SkipMode tonight; did they catch the three seconds of show embedded in the middle commercial break?

    Bolters, we have to know!

I'm bored with standard sitcoms so the live format keeps it interesting.

    Good stuff.

It seemed to me that Bianca Kajlich had no idea that Chris D'Elia was going to do that 30 Minutes or Less bit.

That must have been on the west coast airing. I don't remember that from the version I saw. Did he rip on Rules of Engagement in your version?

With these ratings it will be quite the parlor trick if they can make it through their remaining 10 episodes without being removed. Maybe they'll be asked to double those up into one hour episodes because Truth Be Told is doing even worse.

    No.
Danny said that Leslie wanted to watch 30 Minutes or Less and that since she got topless in it, it was super awkward.

Bianca Kajlich looked stunned and totally trying not to break character at the same time.

Of course, if Rick Glassman had been quicker on his feet, he could have thrown in a good ad lib as well.
