Unable to record

    I have a modified Direct TV Tivo which I recently restarted. Since the restart, I am unable to record unless I connect it to a phone line. All I use is a cell phone no land line. I a bit nervous about connecting to a land line. Up to now all the programing was done through Direct TV. I have a Phillips DSR 704 r/17 and it's been slowing down for the last six months or so. Therfore the restart. Any ideas what would happen if I connected to my friends landline?

    Why are you nervous about connecting via a land line?
