Say it isn't so. Who in his/her right mind would pay $2,000 (TWO GRAND) for a TiVo machine?

Could this be a pricing error in Best Buy's Website?

What pray tell would this machine do that other machines can't?

It's said to record ONLY 45 hours of Hi Def. So what?

Would you pay this outrageous price? For that, it should include lifetime programming AND with the ability to exchange the DVR for future replacements/upgrades ETERNALLY!!!

If I'm not mistaken the Premiere has not been released yet, right?

Maybe Best Buy is just throwing it up there to see if there is anyone impatient/rich enough to be willing to pay that much more to get it a few weeks early. It couldn't hurt them to try.

You can haggle with Best Buy even on the $299 correct price. Sometimes they say no, sometimes they will cut 5-10% off the price of stuff.

This is Best Buy's standard practice for products that aren't available yet. The real price will be shown when it launches on March 28th. Best Buy will not sell them at $2k.

Engadget reported that Best Buy had the units in stock but are not allowed to sell them until March 24th (iirc). So, in the mean time they set the price for the device at $2000 to keep it from being sold early.

UPDATE: I don't know when it was updated, but the $2,000 priced TiVo Premiere machine on Best Buy's Website has been deleted. Now the more reasonable prices of $299.99 and $499.99 (for the XL model) are the only prices listed.

But what if some nut actually pays $2000 for the privilege of being the first to upload a youtube video of his/her new Series 4 machine?

I know someone who works at the BuyMore in the main office- they tell me it's common to put SKU's into the system with fake very high prices before they go live- then the price is supposed to be adjusted when the product hits the floor. Looks like someone just forgot in this case. I noticed that the XL was showing up on the same date for $499, lending credibility to that possibility.

Of course 499 is the correct price for the XL though I wish it was cheaper.

And you still don't get built in wifi, built in SDV conversion or 2 way cable communication. And you have to buy the new remote separately.

The old UI works great for me. Would rather just stick with the TIVO HD.
