    Gang -

I ordered the Bolt. My experience in the past with getting Cable Cards from TWC has not been good. In preparation for the grueling setup experience I was thinking of getting 3 M-Cards from TWC to increase my odds that one of them would actually work. After I get things running I would return the other 2. So I get charged a few cents a day for having the extras - no big deal.

Does this sound like a plan? Beats schlepping back to the TWC store to get another card should the first one (or two) not work. Anybody out there tried this?

I had thought of using the M-Card from my TiVo HD but I will probably want to keep both boxes running for the 10 days that they allow this to happen.

    Thanks!

    Bob

after the shipment notification, tivo sends several instructional emails. The first one says to ask for 5 cable cards.

Whoa, what is the issue with cable cards that you would need -5- of them??

It's insurance. You may only need one, but if there's a problem pairing it, it's better to have a spare or 4 to swap out. Some people get it on the first try, some have to deal with a CS person who can't spell cable card.

I am also amazed that so many cable cards don't work out of the box. How does that happen?

TWC support is not so good in general BUT I have found that the TiVo specialists (Buffalo, NY) are excellent!

Remember most of TiVo's documentation is old and has little proof reading. Everyone has an opinion and an experience that will vary. My cable company is small but they are good with cable cards.

My past problems with TWC Cable card had nothing to do with the cards, the Motorola tuning adapters have an extremely high failure rate. I received a self install kit the tuning adapter was DOA, the truck roll with replacement was also DOA. I told the tech either they get a working tuning adapter out today or their taking the one existing and working unit back immediately. He said he couldn't, I referred to a Discount Tire commercial returning a Car Tire by throwing it through a plate glass window, I could do the same to your truck.

They sent two more by courier, another DOA adapter and one that worked. In the 22 months I subscribed I had a total of six tuning adapter failures replaced. It was the TWC CBS retrans fight of 2013 that I decided they just were not worth the headaches and went OTA.
