i just got the usb wireless device for our series 2 TIVO, and downloaded Toast for mac to use tivo to go. I've read through the posts...i am having the same problems, i can transfer some programs to the mac entirely, some programs get about half way through and then cut off, and some programs cut off immediately.

    whats going on?

Does anyone know if this has anything to do with the software? Does it matter if you have Tivo Desktop or Tivo Desktop Plus???

Doesn't matter what you use to do the transfer. You don't even need to use TiVo Desktop at all. You can use your web browser and it will still fail. The problem is with the TiVo software, not the PC software.

In other words upgrading to TiVo Desktop Plus won't help you.

Thanks. I didn't think it mattered, but just wanted to verify.

This is a very "low tech" answer, but I had a problem with mine and found that my TivoToGo software had somehow been corrupted.

I went to CNet and downloaded a new version, and it solved the problem. If you are using the Roxio/Sonic interface, remember that ONLY Version 2.0 of TivoTo Go is compatible. Tivo support says that Roxio has no plans to retool their interface to accept the later versions of TivoTo Go.

This isn't completely true. For windows, Roxio/Sonic has released an update to their MyDVD software (6.2) which supported Desktop 2.2. I'm not positive if it supports Desktop 2.3 or not, but I know that if you install Desktop 2.2 and save off the DirectShow dll file, that's all that MyDvd needs to work.

I've read through this very long post and I'm fairly certain that my problem is the same, but I just want to clarify.

I've been trying to transfer TiVo shows to both my (mac) laptop and PC using both TiVo to go and through various other means (web browsers, several different freeware apps from the web, etc.) and each time I do, the transfer starts, gets a few mb's in, then stops.

And it stops because my TiVo box crashes. I can't recall hearing a lot of other posters in this thread talk about the box itself crashing -- the just the transfer being interrupted, quitting, etc.

Once the box crashes, it reboots just fine like nothing happened, but of course I'm not getting anything off the box. Frustrating frustrating frustrating.

Was thinking it was a hardware issue and was thinking of upgrading the box anyway. But if the issue is software, should I even both until TiVo "fixes" this issue? (Or should I scrap the whole project and drop TiVo?)

djbuddha, you're issue doesn't sound like the same one. What network adapter are you using on the TiVo? Some wireless ones have been known to cause crashes.

It's a D-Link DWL-G120. It was on the "approved list" of the TiVo website when I bought it.

I found a thread where some people were reporting of random crashes when using the DWL-G120 rev B1, but that was with the 7.3.1 software.

I'm not sure if this is the same problem as what you are seeing or not.

You may want to try switching to the TiVo Wireless G adapter as that may fix your problem. At the least it will be much faster.

    Thanks for tip.

But even if I spring for a new adapter, will I have the same problems reported here in this thread? In other words, should I wait till this problem is fixed?

What model TiVo do you have?
As far as I know the problem in this thread only affects the 540 model single tuner.

Good news! We have begun rolling out the software that should take care of almost every instance of transfer failures for TiVoToGo.

(posting the details from TiVoPony here as well)

Will this allow the transfer of already recorded "problem" programs or does it only prevent problems for future recordings?

Aha, now that a little easier to answer than the one you posted in the other thread. ;-) The answer to this question is YES (at least it's supposed to be!)

Before the software change that brought this bug to life, there were prior reports of transfer failures at various points of specific recordings. We expect there will still be a few of those lingering after this change, as all we did was revert what was causing the most recent problem associated with channel changes.

Other than succeeding to transfer a program that had previously failed, how will we be able to tell if our software has been upgraded?

System Information will show the software version as 8.1a.

I check my settings on a daily basis. TiVo Central - Message & Settings - Settings - Phone & Network - upper left hand corner after "Last Status" if you have a software update you'll see "pending" or "pending reset". This is what I saw today and upon restarting TiVo, my software was upgraded from 8.1-01 to 8.1a-01 (this information is found in "Account & System Information").

Even after today's update, however, I still don't see any sign of anything relating to Amazon Unbox.
