Can someone tell me how to do this? My series 2 box only has a phone line jack (no ethernet).

Can I hook the box up via USB to my new TIVO HD XL box, and copy the shows over? Have about 8 shows off my first generation TIVO box I would like moved to my TIVO HD XL.

First, you're going to need a compatible wired (or wireless) USB adapter for your S2 Tivo.

    Wired will give better results.

Attach one end of an ethernet cable to the adapter on the S2, and the other end into the ethernet port of your HD XL Tivo.

Go to your TiVo account, and under DVR Preferences, check the boxes to enable video downloads and video sharing. Click Save.
Give the website a couple of hours to update your status to the TiVo servers.
(NOTE: TiVo says it can take up to 24 hours. http://support.tivo.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/171)
Force a service connection on both Tivos.

After that you should be good to go. You should see the *other* Tivo at the bottom of the Now Playing List.

Edit to add: If the material you want to transfer is copy protected (e.g., stuff downloaded from Amazon VOD or podcasts), you're out of luck.

My Series is 140 on my S2.
It has a telephone jack, and 2 USB. I bought a Netgear Universal WiFi Internet Adapter (WNCE2001) for my Tivo HD XL, but not sure if that will work as the S2 has no ethernet jack.

You need one of the adapters listed on the site linked above. Nothing else will work. Note, you must get the right adapter including the revision number. Many of the model numbers only older revisions work. The revisions that work are noted. If you are unsure you can just purchase the one on Tivo's website.
