I'm re-watching Breaking Bad and was inspired to create this thread. I'm sure there have been many such lists here before, but, hey, why the heck not another one, it's not like there's a bandwidth shortage.

    Mine, in no particular order:

    1. The Wire
    2. Game of Thrones
    3. Breaking Bad
    4. Band of Brothers
    5. The West Wing (Sorkin years only)

Please tell us your own Top Five.

Breaking Bad and House of Cards standout
Seinfeld because there should be a comedy
Dark was my personal favorite (better than Lost)
St Elsewhere voted in by the veterans committee.

Another "my favorite TV show list" How novel! :)

Mine in no particular order (and I guarantee that I will think of 5 more as soon as I hit Post Reply.

The Americans - No series kept me as riveted each week as this one
Seinfeld - best sitcom of all time
Friends - This series is STILL funny even in reruns. Maybe doesn't get the credit it should
Game of Thrones - Very rushed the last season, but still one of the most interesting series with the greatest "holy s**t" moments of all time
Taxi - another series that never gets the credit it's due. Just consitantly real and funny and captured a NY cabbies life of the 1970s very well. There are few characters as consistently funny as Louis dePalma and Jim Ignatowski.

Others I considered but that weren't consistent year after year.

M*A*S*H - First three (Henry and Trapper) seasons. The first two BJ seasons were good too, but then Charles and the serious episodes ruined it for me.
Lost - The last season ruined it for me
The Sopranos - This would have been #6. Really no flaws, but I just liked the above 5 a little better
Northern Exposure - Last season, mostly without Rob Morrow, just wasn't as good
The Wonder Years - probably #7. Perhaps the best series finale ever.
Cheers - The transition from Shelly Long to Kirstie Alley was a little bumpy, and not fond of the Kristie fawning over her boss years, but still funny.

I also didn't consider mini-series like Band of Brothers, or even Fargo since the former was just the one short "season" and the latter is just a series of mini-series. But in their own right would make my list.

It's funny how many of these lists ignore any TV show that was made prior to 2000 (I guess technically The Sopranos started in the late 1990s). Were there no great shows prior to then? :)

No denying that, at least for awhile (though with so many places for TV these days, I'd say while some has gone up there's an awful lot more crap out there too).

I just think we forget about some old things as we get older.

Another show I forgot about which would make my list, at least as an honorable mention would be "The Prisoner". Though there was only 1 season if I recall, so you could consider it a mini-series.

I like BCS better than Breaking Bad.

    My list would probably be:

    1. The Wire
    2. Better Call Saul
    3. Breaking Bad
    4. Classic Twilight Zone.
    5. The West Wing.

Honorable mention to Mad Men, Twin Peaks, and Deadwood.

Depending on how it continues, Westworld might make honorable mention, too.

So little love for Comedies. I never understood why "comedies" are never considered as good as a good drama. You see it with movies too. There have been very few comedies to ever win an Oscar, yet some of my most memorable movies are comedies. Same with TV shows. That's why I rate three of them in my list.

The appreciation and toleration of specific modes of artifice tend to fade with time, so more recent junk seems less junky (though there are cycles).

It's all just TV, and I'm not sure any of what we've seen so far will have regard much distance into the future. Maybe wrestling and reality shows. Jeopardy, of course.

Any list excluding The Big Bang Theory must be from someone with little/no sense of humor.

I love TBBT, but it's not in my top 5, maybe not even top 10. But, I would say it's in my top 10 of rewatchable shows. That's another list we need :)

My list was purposely drama-type shows. I think a sitcom list should be separate and include TBBT, Friends, Cheers, MTM/DVD, Carol Burnett, Etc.
